Job Summary

The Metropolitan Water Reclamation District of Greater Chicago is seeking a highly skilled Desktop Solutions Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our IT department, you will be responsible for managing and supporting our desktop enterprise solutions, including hardware, operating systems, patch management, anti-virus, software distribution, and mobile device management.

Key Responsibilities

  • Design, implement, and maintain desktop infrastructure solutions to meet the needs of our organization.
  • Provide technical support and troubleshooting for desktop-related issues, ensuring minimal downtime and maximum productivity.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to develop and implement technology standards and best practices.
  • Contribute to the analysis and creation of applications deployment and management strategies for PCs, tablets, and mobile devices.
  • Assist in the analysis of technology risks and security risks, ensuring the integrity of our systems and data.
  • Manage or oversee the management of selected systems upgrades and improvements via application of patches.
  • Contribute to user accessibility, stability, and security in accordance with District policy standards.
  • Develop and maintain documentation, including manuals for standard operating procedures, best practices, or mitigation plans.

Requirements

  • Graduation from a four-year accredited college or university majoring in information technology, computer science, or a closely related field.
  • Four years of professional-level experience managing and/or supporting desktop enterprise solutions.
  • Considerable knowledge of desktop operating systems, including software package development, configuration management, patch testing, and networking.
  • Considerable knowledge of desktop hardware, including PCs, tablets, mobile devices, and thin clients.
  • Considerable knowledge of risk assessment related to technology implementation and security.
  • Active listening skills and ability to communicate effectively, orally and in writing.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Graduate study in the designated fields may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two years.
  • Full-time paid experience managing and/or supporting desktop enterprise solutions may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
  • A Microsoft MCITP, MCSE, or VMware VCP certification related to desktop or client support may be substituted for one year of the required education or experience.

Substitution

Graduate study in the designated fields may be substituted for experience on a year-for-year basis to a maximum of two years. Full-time paid experience managing and/or supporting desktop enterprise solutions may be substituted for the required education on a year-for-year basis. A Microsoft MCITP, MCSE, or VMware VCP certification related to desktop or client support may be substituted for one year of the required education or experience.

Promotional Requirement

  • Two years of service with the District as a Desktop Analyst or an IT Support Coordinator.
  • Civil service status in one of the foregoing classifications.
