Position Overview:

This role is exclusively available to residents of Alaska.

Key Responsibilities:

The selected candidate will operate State-owned or leased single-engine fixed-wing aircraft and helicopters to support various missions, including law enforcement operations and Search and Rescue (SAR) efforts. Depending on the location, the Aircraft Pilot 1 may be assigned to:

  • Light single-engine fixed-wing aircraft
  • Turbine aircraft

Working Conditions:

This position is based in the Aircraft Section and operates from a designated airport. The work schedule consists of 8 days on duty followed by 6 days off. Please note that housing is not provided, and travel expenses for individuals residing outside the area will not be covered. The role may involve travel throughout the state to provide aircraft support.

Candidate Profile:

We are seeking individuals with:

  • Proficient knowledge of flying maneuvers for day, night, and instrument flying conditions.
  • Experience piloting light fixed-wing aircraft.
  • Time logged on turbine engines.
  • Understanding of aircraft maintenance procedures, including performing post-maintenance function checks and coordinating with maintenance personnel.
  • Ability to provide logistical support to fellow pilots for aircraft movement.
  • Strong decision-making skills to assess flight safety and weather conditions.
  • Competence in using web-based tools for pre-flight weather briefings and flight planning.

Qualifications:

Applicants must possess a current FAA license and medical certification as a Commercial Pilot or Airline Transport Pilot, with appropriate ratings for the aircraft types involved. Additionally, candidates should have sufficient flight hours as Pilot-in-Command (PIC) for the aircraft categories relevant to this position.
