Position Overview

Dennis Group is seeking a skilled Mechanical Engineer to design and implement mechanical systems within a collaborative engineering and architectural team focused on food and beverage production facilities.

The role emphasizes the design of HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection systems.

As a vital member of our mechanical team, you will engage in the design of mechanical systems, perform calculations for heating and cooling loads, select appropriate equipment sizes, and evaluate potential vendors, suppliers, and subcontractors.

Key Responsibilities
  • Independently manage multiple projects.
  • Complete all engineering tasks from design through execution.
  • Conduct heating and cooling load calculations.
  • Review codes for HVAC, plumbing, and fire protection designs.
  • Perform mass energy balance and drainage calculations.
  • Analyze flow tests and sanitary design considerations.
  • Draft and design P&IDs.
Bid Package Development
  • Create bid lists, scopes of work, and milestone schedules.
  • Provide cost estimations and scheduling support to project managers.
  • Conduct bid reviews and peer design evaluations.
  • Lead commissioning activities and equipment selection.
  • Develop functional descriptions for controls.
  • Prepare mechanical schedules and present findings to clients.
Compliance and Inspection
  • Ensure familiarity with building codes and insurance requirements.
  • Conduct vendor shop inspections and FATs.
  • Support the development of HVAC, utility, plumbing, and fire suppression systems.
  • Collaborate with internal and external team members on mechanical system design.
Documentation and Support
  • Create project documents including calculations, reports, and construction drawings.
  • Select fixtures and perform construction administration tasks.
  • Research mechanical materials and best practices.
  • Mentor and coach junior team members as directed.
Qualifications
  • Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related field.
  • 8-11 years of experience in HVAC and utilities design, particularly in food and beverage or sanitary environments.
  • Proficiency in engineering design software and CAD tools (AutoCAD, Revit, etc.).
  • Experience in performing energy, drainage, and line loss calculations.
  • Professional Engineer (PE) registration is advantageous.
Travel Requirements

Willingness to travel to project sites as needed, estimated at 10-25%.
