About the Role

We are seeking a highly skilled and experienced Director to lead our Ubuntu Desktop Engineering team. As a key member of our engineering leadership team, you will be responsible for developing and executing the strategic direction for our desktop offerings, ensuring they meet the needs of our customers and the wider open source community.

Key Responsibilities
  • Strategy and Architecture: Develop and implement the overall strategy for Ubuntu Desktop, working closely with our community and upstream projects.
  • Leadership and Management: Lead a team of engineers responsible for the development and maintenance of our desktop software, ensuring they have the necessary skills and resources to deliver high-quality products.
  • Technical Expertise: Provide technical leadership and guidance on desktop-related technologies, including Linux graphics, system architecture, and security.
  • Collaboration and Communication: Work closely with our product management team to ensure our desktop offerings meet customer needs, and collaborate with our community to drive adoption and engagement.
  • Performance and Quality: Ensure our desktop software meets the highest standards of performance, quality, and security, and identify opportunities for improvement.
Requirements
  • Leadership Experience: Proven experience in leading engineering teams, with a track record of delivering high-quality products and driving technical innovation.
  • Technical Expertise: Deep understanding of Linux graphics, system architecture, and security, as well as experience with desktop-related technologies such as Rust, C/C++, Flutter, and Golang.
  • Communication and Collaboration: Excellent communication and collaboration skills, with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams and stakeholders.
  • Business Acumen: Strong business acumen, with the ability to understand customer needs and drive business growth through technical innovation.
