Current Schedule

Typical hours are Monday – Friday 1 pm – 5 pm or 2 pm – 6 pm; requires one weekend every month (Saturday 9 am – 6 pm and Sunday 2 pm – 6 pm).

Purpose and Scope

We are seeking a Library Technology Support Specialist to assist patrons utilizing the public computers at the Athens Regional Library. The ideal candidate will be enthusiastic, innovative, and adaptable, actively seeking opportunities to deliver exceptional library services that engage the community.

Minimum Training and Experience

A high school diploma or equivalent is preferred; a college degree or relevant experience is desirable. A minimum of two years in customer service is required, with library-related experience preferred. Proficiency in Internet usage and general computer skills is essential. A satisfactory combination of training and experience will also be considered.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

The following are typical, but not exhaustive, expectations for this role. Additional duties of a similar nature or level may be assigned as needed:

  • Deliver outstanding customer service to library patrons requiring assistance with library computers.
  • Assist patrons with using CD/DVD burners, scanners, printers, and other computer peripherals.
  • Support A/V setup for meetings and events, demonstrating the ability to learn and utilize basic A/V equipment, including projectors and microphones.
  • Adhere to all library policies, including the Patron Responsibilities and Conduct statement.
  • Monitor and respond to the safety and security of library patrons and the facility; address and report situations according to established procedures.
  • Occasionally provide scheduled one-on-one tutorials for patrons on websites, software, or applications.
  • Participate in at least two approved off-site outreach programs each year.
  • Complete a minimum of 10 hours of approved work-related training activities annually.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

The candidate should possess the following:

  • Ability to uphold the library's core values and provide service that is welcoming, inclusive, and respectful.
  • Knowledge of customer service principles and skills in delivering efficient and professional service to patrons of all ages.
  • Familiarity with policies and procedures of the Athens Regional Library System.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and other Office programs in a Windows environment.
  • Experience with scanning, printing, and managing documents, including PDF usage.
  • Thorough understanding of Internet usage, including search techniques and social media platforms.
  • Ability to assist patrons with online applications, file management, and email tasks.
  • Knowledge of library technology services, including downloadable content, and the ability to assist patrons in their use.
  • Capacity to manage a busy work environment, multitask effectively, and maintain professionalism under pressure.
  • Understanding of normal and emergency library procedures.
  • Basic office skills, including cash handling and change management.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Regular, predictable, and punctual attendance.
  • Willingness to learn new technologies and stay updated on trends.
  • Effective communication skills, both orally and in writing, in English.
