Key Responsibilities


• Administers assessments and diagnostic tests as instructed by the teacher (including math and reading evaluations) to assist in the educational process.


• Aids students, either individually or in small groups, with their assignments and daily tasks (such as reading assistance, writing support, and guidance with educational software) to reinforce learning concepts and help students achieve academic objectives and social skills.


• Facilitates independent study, enrichment activities, remedial tasks, and personal hygiene routines (toileting, dressing, etc.) to support and reinforce educational concepts.


• Maintains classroom resources, supplies, and educational tools (such as computers and art materials) to ensure a safe and accessible learning environment.


• Monitors groups of students in various environments (classroom, playground, field trips, library, lunchroom, etc.) to provide a secure and positive educational experience.


• Reports observations and incidents concerning specific students (such as accidents or behavioral issues) to communicate relevant information to instructional and administrative staff.


• Responds to emergencies (injured students, altercations, etc.) to address immediate safety concerns and direct to appropriate personnel for resolution.


• Supports classroom educators (through storytelling, reading, drills, and assisting in various activities) to help implement effective teaching strategies and methodologies.

• Performs other related tasks as assigned to ensure the smooth operation of the educational environment.

Required Competencies


• Skills: Ability to perform multiple tasks and adapt to changing job conditions. Proficiency in operating standard office equipment and relevant software; maintaining accurate records; adhering to safety protocols; administering first aid; and promoting school activities.


• Knowledge: Understanding of basic math, reading comprehension, and the ability to follow complex instructions. Familiarity with child development stages, age-appropriate activities, classroom technology, and safety regulations.


• Abilities: Capable of scheduling activities, gathering data, and using job-related equipment. Flexibility to work collaboratively, prioritize tasks, and communicate effectively with diverse groups.

Qualifications

High school diploma or GED equivalent

At least 21 years of age (Individuals with an Associate Degree or higher teaching credential may be exempt from the age requirement) Paraprofessional license or successful completion of the paraprofessional assessment.

Physical Demands

The typical functions of this role require occasional lifting, carrying, pushing, and pulling, as well as frequent bending, kneeling, and fine motor skills.

Generally, the job entails 10% sitting, 40% walking, and 50% standing.

Professional Development

Responsible for maintaining all necessary licenses and certifications.
