Position Overview:

The Lead Risk Management Consultant offers a wide array of risk management knowledge to business leaders. This role involves leading and facilitating the establishment of effective risk frameworks and managing related activities to reduce enterprise-wide risk exposures within key business segments of the organization. The consultant may also provide oversight, insights, and recommendations aligned with overall strategy and industry best practices.

The Office of the Chief Risk Officer (OCRO) Regulatory Engagement & Strategic Planning group was established to support the CRO and Risk Management Leadership through various strategic initiatives and projects, including due diligence for mergers and acquisitions, business opportunity analysis, senior leadership communication, efficiency improvements, and governance assessments.

Recently, the team's responsibilities have expanded to develop and manage a comprehensive exam management process for Risk Management. This new process involves direct oversight of the second line of defense in Risk Management while coordinating with both the first and third lines of defense to ensure clear and consistent communication with regulators.

Scope of Responsibilities:
  • Recognized as a leading expert within the organization, requiring extensive expertise in a complex field and knowledge of related areas.
  • Provides advisory services to executives and business leaders, governing requirements for their work.
  • Integrates knowledge of the enterprise's strategy in leading program design, policy formulation, or operational standards.
  • Anticipates emerging business trends and regulatory issues to recommend significant improvements.
  • Acts as a source of expert advice to senior management and may lead teams of specialists.
  • Advises on execution strategies and leads the development of functional programs within their field.
  • Addresses unique and complex problems with broad impact, overseeing standards and controls that significantly affect financial and operational outcomes.
  • Requires innovative thinking to create new solutions.
  • Influences the technical direction and resource allocation of parts of the enterprise.
  • Works within general policies and industry guidelines.
  • Engages stakeholders to drive action and serves as a source of expert advice.

Qualifications:
  • Undergraduate degree or technical certificate.
  • 10+ years of relevant experience.
  • Advanced knowledge of risk management governance, programs, policies, and practices.
  • Understanding of the risk management environment, standards, and regulations.
  • Familiarity with current and emerging market trends.
  • Ability to contribute to the strategic direction of the function and advise senior leadership.
  • Skills in mentoring and coaching.
  • Proficiency in advanced analytical software tools and data analysis methods.
  • Ability to lead, plan, implement, and evaluate program activities effectively.
  • Strong negotiation, problem-solving, and communication skills.
  • Proficient in using computer applications, including MS Office.
  • Effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work collaboratively and build relationships across teams.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.

Accountabilities:
  • Leads the development and implementation of standards and processes to identify and mitigate operational risks.
  • Analyzes potential risks proactively and escalates key risks to appropriate areas.
  • Establishes ongoing analysis and reporting on operational risks and reviews findings with business leaders.
  • Guides activities related to core operational risk disciplines and regulatory compliance.
  • Supports enterprise-wide operational risk management processes.
  • Develops and monitors Key Risk Indicators and facilitates communication of risk issues.
  • May manage ancillary operational risk areas in addition to core functions.
  • Acts as a point of contact for compliance monitoring and reporting.
  • Provides commentary to support the development and maintenance of policies and procedures.
