KPMG is currently seeking a Senior Associate to join our State and Local Tax (SALT) practice.
Responsibilities:
- Engage with multi-state alternative investment firms (hedge funds, fund of funds, private equity, real estate) on state and local tax matters including compliance, advisory, planning, and disputes.
- Assist multi-state companies with state and local tax disputes, which includes preparing clients for discussions with auditors, representing clients at hearings and appeal meetings, and drafting protests.
- Collaborate as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide subject matter expertise in the alternative investment industry.
- Review information presented on state income tax returns throughout the preparation process.
- Build and manage client relationships while supervising, mentoring, and developing junior staff.
- Conduct research and draft technical memoranda regarding income, franchise, and sales and use tax inquiries.
Qualifications:
- A minimum of two years of experience in tax research and preparation of state income tax returns for pass-through and corporate entities, providing technical advice on multi-state tax issues.
- Bachelor's degree in Taxation, and/or Master's in Taxation (MST) from an accredited institution.
- Experience in providing services to pass-through entities and a solid understanding of relevant state tax concepts.
- Ability to foster relationships both internally and with clients.
- Desire and capability to thrive in a high-energy team environment.
- Excellent writing, compliance, communication, and tax research skills.

Any offered salary is determined based on relevant factors such as applicant's skills, job responsibilities, prior relevant experience, certain degrees and certifications, and market considerations.
