KPMG is currently seeking a Senior Tax Associate to join our State and Local Tax (SALT) practice.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage with multi-state alternative investment firms (including hedge funds, fund of funds, private equity, and real estate) on state and local tax matters encompassing compliance, advisory, planning, and disputes.
  • Assist multi-state companies in addressing state and local tax disputes, which involves preparing clients for auditor discussions, representing clients in hearings and appeals, and drafting protests.
  • Collaborate within a multidisciplinary team to provide specialized knowledge and experience in the alternative investment sector.
  • Review information presented on state income tax returns throughout the preparation process.
  • Build and maintain client relationships while supervising, mentoring, and developing junior staff.
  • Conduct research and draft technical memoranda on inquiries related to income, franchise, and sales and use tax.

Qualifications:

  • A minimum of two years of experience in tax research and preparation of state income tax returns for pass-through and corporate entities, along with providing technical advice on multi-state tax issues.
  • Bachelor's degree in Taxation or a Master's in Taxation (MST) from an accredited institution.
  • Experience delivering services to pass-through entities and a strong understanding of relevant state tax principles.
  • Ability to cultivate relationships both internally and externally with clients.
  • A strong desire to thrive in a high-energy team environment.
  • Exceptional writing, compliance, communication, and tax research skills.
