Job Title: Developmental Services Nurse

About the Job:

The State of Connecticut, Department of Administrative Services is seeking a highly skilled and dedicated Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to join our team in Newington, CT. As a LPN, you will play a vital role in providing exceptional nursing care to individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide bedside care and mental health services to individuals with physical disabilities and/or an intellectual disability.
  • Assist doctors and nurses in the general care and treatment of individuals.
  • Measure and administer medications, including insulin injections.
  • Document medications using appropriate forms.
  • Perform narcotic counts and check for intravenous medications.
  • Report changes in individuals to doctors and ensure restraints are applied correctly.
  • Transcribe doctors' medication orders and dispense certain medications in their absence.
  • Apply topical medication, take and chart temperatures, pulses, and respirations, and perform simple nursing treatments.
  • Monitor general individual needs, including personal hygiene, and report on individual conditions and behavior.
  • Maintain a safe and healthy environment and administer enemas or suppositories as needed.

Requirements:

  • Must be licensed to practice nursing in Connecticut by the State Board of Examiners for Nursing.
  • Experience providing nursing services to individuals with intellectual and/or developmental disabilities is preferred.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with non-verbal individuals and work collaboratively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft applications, including Outlook, Excel, Teams, and Word.
