We are seeking a dedicated Resident Care Specialist to join our team at Community Residences. This is a full-time position with an estimated annual salary of $37,500.

Job Description

This role involves creating and maintaining a positive learning environment for individuals with developmental disabilities. The successful candidate will develop strategies to help residents cope with daily living situations and facilitate independent performance in various areas.

  1. The ideal candidate will be able to perform all job functions required, including lifting and transferring up to 70-75 pounds, both inside and outside the home.

Key responsibilities include:

  • Implementing Individual Plans of Care and Follow-Along Plans based on the Interdisciplinary Team's identification of client needs;
  • Maintaining and documenting awareness of individual treatment plans, inclusive of leisure time, community experiences, use of public transportation, safety skills, personal hygiene, and activities of daily living;
  • Monitoring medical, physical, and behavioral changes in individuals on a daily basis and reporting changes to the Supervisor, RN Program Coordinator or Program Director as needed;
  • Administering medication to clients at prescribed times, in accordance with agency policy and DDS regulatory standards;
  • Maintaining the appearance, cleanliness, and upkeep of the house, properties, and vehicle, ensuring they are clean and safe;
  • Providing accurate accounting of agency's petty cash and client funds in an informative, auditable condition at all times;
  • Assuring individuals' right to privacy and adhering to CRI's confidentiality policy;
  • Taking individuals to community-based outings, following health and safety measures outlined in their support plan;

In addition to these responsibilities, the successful candidate will also:

  • Participate in training opportunities, such as in-service training, staff meetings, conferences, etc., as required;
  • Familiarize themselves with CRI policies and procedures, ensuring compliance with same;
  • Assist in developing a positive neighborhood/community relationship;
Requirements

To be successful in this role, the ideal candidate will possess:

  • Demonstrated organizational ability, experience, and ability to communicate effectively with persons with developmental disabilities;
  • Some knowledge of educational and behavioral programs;
  • Willingness to learn about current issues in the field of developmental disabilities;
  • Able to communicate with people at various ability levels;
  • Organizational abilities to implement programs and services designed to enhance the individual's learning process;
  • Self-motivation;
  • Interest in improving the quality of life for people; interest in household management; interest in teaching;
  • Patient, encouraging attitude, optimism, energy, communication skills, and a nurturing temperament;
  • Ability to perform active work, both inside and outside the program;
  • A valid CT driver's license and good driving record;
  • Reliable transportation and willingness to utilize personal vehicle to transport clients;
Education

A high school diploma or GED and at least two years of experience in the field of Human Services are preferred. A Bachelor's degree in a related Human Services area, in addition to experience, is also preferred.

This position is available Tuesday-Friday from 7am-8:30am at Lydale, 8:30am-3pm NDP, and Saturday from 9am-2:30pm.
