In the role of Cost Accountant, you will play a pivotal part in planning, analyzing, and conveying the profitability of our manufacturing operations through comprehensive reports detailing efficiencies linked to production and other essential financial metrics for management's review. Your responsibilities will also include coordinating and executing cycle counts and annual physical inventories within the plant, steering the cost analysis process, and overseeing the formulation and management of the plant's annual budget.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyze and communicate the profitability of manufacturing operations, generating detailed reports that outline efficiencies, production metrics, and key financial data for management.
  • Review production costs, gains/losses, and month-end closing information.
  • Independently gather and analyze operational data.
  • Conduct monthly cost analyses of controllable expense accounts and material cost variances.
  • Forecast, analyze, and report on plant performance to leadership teams.
  • Understand, explain, and reconcile financial variances in manufacturing.
  • Prepare month-end closing activities, including journal entries, accruals, and reconciliations.
  • Identify resources and solutions to address gaps in performance goals.
  • Engage in daily/weekly plant meetings to present analysis results and proposed solutions.
  • Drive accounting processes to ensure accurate records and compliance with key control requirements.
  • Support and document monthly SOX controls and audits.
  • Reconcile cycle counts and manage adjustments as approved.
  • Coordinate data collection and provide organized information to senior accountants for decision-making.
  • Assist in developing and managing the annual budget.
  • Participate in the annual review of Bill of Materials (BOMs) and Production Routings.
  • Identify issues and propose innovative solutions.
Depending on the complexity and size of the plant, additional responsibilities may include:
  • Entering daily production data into spreadsheets and SAP.
  • Resolving discrepancies in production entries.
  • Managing raw material receiving data entry into SAP.
  • Overseeing inventory movement through quality processes.
  • Handling damaged and obsolete inventory.
  • Managing MRB (Material Review Board) inventory.
  • Researching and resolving purchasing invoice discrepancies.
  • Ensuring efficient and accurate completion of cycle counts.

Qualifications:
  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance is required.
  • A minimum of one year of experience in an accounting or finance role is essential.
  • Manufacturing experience is preferred.
  • CPA / CMA certification (or in progress) is advantageous.
  • Ability to think tactically while understanding broader operational perspectives.
  • Proficient knowledge of standard and cost accounting practices.
  • Capability to synthesize complex data into actionable insights.
  • Proven problem-solving skills based on data analysis.
  • Strong research and report preparation skills.
  • Results-oriented with a focus on timely and accurate delivery of services.
  • Moderate proficiency in MS Office and other relevant software.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to convey financial information effectively.
  • Ability to identify problems and propose alternative solutions based on data analysis.
