Your Role as a Cost Accountant:

In the role of Cost Accountant, you will play a pivotal part in planning, analyzing, and communicating the profitability of our manufacturing operations. This will involve creating comprehensive reports that detail efficiencies related to production and other critical financial metrics for management review. You will also oversee cycle counts and annual physical counts, guide the cost analysis process, and manage the plant's annual budget.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan, analyze, and communicate the profitability of manufacturing operations through detailed reporting.
  • Examine production costs, gain/loss, and month-end closing data.
  • Independently gather and analyze operational data.
  • Conduct monthly cost analysis of controllable expense accounts and material cost variances.
  • Forecast and report plant performance to leadership teams.
  • Understand and reconcile manufacturing financial variances.
  • Prepare month-end close activities, including journal entries and balance sheet reconciliations.
  • Identify resources and solutions to address performance gaps.
  • Participate in plant meetings to present analysis results and proposed solutions.
  • Ensure compliance with accounting processes and key control requirements.
  • Support documentation for SOX controls and audits.
  • Reconcile cycle counts and manage adjustments.
  • Assist in the development and management of the annual budget.
  • Participate in updating Bill of Materials (BOMs) and Production Routings.
  • Proactively identify problems and propose solutions.

Additional Responsibilities May Include:

  • Entering daily production data into spreadsheets and SAP.
  • Resolving discrepancies in production entries.
  • Managing inventory movements through quality processes.
  • Overseeing damaged and obsolete inventory.
  • Researching purchasing invoice issues.
  • Coordinating cycle counts and ensuring data accuracy.

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance.
  • Minimum of one year of experience in an accounting or finance role.
  • Manufacturing experience is preferred.
  • CPA/CMA certification (or in progress) is a plus.
  • Ability to analyze complex data and provide actionable insights.
  • Strong problem-solving skills and sound judgment.
  • Proficient in MS Office and other accounting software.
  • Excellent communication skills for conveying financial information.
  • Desire for growth within the organization.
