Job Overview:

The Patient Access Coordinator plays a crucial role in ensuring a seamless experience for patients and their families. This position is responsible for accurately gathering and entering patient information into the healthcare system, while also assisting with various administrative tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct thorough interviews with patients to collect essential demographic and financial data, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Manage pre-registration processes, verify insurance coverage, and collect necessary payments.
  • Maintain confidentiality and adhere to regulations such as HIPAA and EMTALA while handling sensitive patient information.
  • Provide exceptional customer service, addressing the individual needs of patients and their families with compassion.
  • Assign appropriate billing codes to ensure compliance during the registration process.
  • Obtain required signatures and documentation in accordance with federal regulations.
  • Utilize electronic systems to verify insurance eligibility and benefits.
  • Educate patients regarding their financial responsibilities and collect prepayments for services not covered by insurance.
  • Operate various computer applications to facilitate patient registration, appointment scheduling, and retrieval of necessary information.
  • Collaborate with other departments to gather required data and resolve any issues that may arise.
  • Address exception accounts related to registration errors and work towards resolution.
  • Participate in cross-training initiatives to support different areas within Patient Access.
  • Contribute to continuous improvement efforts and lean initiatives within the department.
  • Assist in onboarding and training new team members.
  • Screen patients and visitors for infectious diseases upon entry.

Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or GED required.
  • Minimum of six months of experience in a public-facing role; prior clerical experience is preferred.
  • Experience in a healthcare environment is advantageous.

Skills and Knowledge:

  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Strong commitment to maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Proficiency in data entry, with a requirement of 7,000 keystrokes per hour.
  • Familiarity with EPIC, Passport, and Microsoft Outlook is preferred.
  • Understanding of insurance verification and medical terminology is beneficial.
