At Helping People - United Way of Greater St. Louis, we bring together individuals and organizations to address the most pressing issues in our community. The Leadership Giving Societies play a vital role in our engagement strategies. Over 7,000 local individuals contribute $1,000 or more to become members of these societies. Our Leadership Giving Societies include the Women's Leadership Society, Men's Leadership Society, Charmaine Chapman Society, Multicultural Leadership Society, United Young Leaders, and de Tocqueville Societies. We also offer a program supported by the Regional Business Council aimed at enhancing philanthropic access and participation for women and people of color.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Oversee a portfolio of Leadership Giving Society contributors, engaging with them regularly to help achieve their philanthropic objectives.
  • Maintain precise donor records utilizing a proprietary database used by United Way across the nation.
  • Ensure all current, lapsed, and prospective donors are approached appropriately and accurately.
  • Guarantee the accuracy of solicitations, appeals, and supporting materials.
  • Represent the Leadership Giving Society at various United Way events, which may occur during evenings and weekends.
  • Design and execute programs and events that further the fundraising goals of the department.
  • Manage donor step-up initiatives for Leadership Society contributors aiming to transition to the de Tocqueville Society, providing necessary support and guidance.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Team-oriented with a strong commitment to building productive relationships with staff, volunteers, and the community.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and prioritize tasks that align with departmental strategies and objectives.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to promptly address donor needs, ensuring high satisfaction levels.
  • Assist volunteers with managing timelines, coordinating meetings, and preparing supplementary materials (data/reports, talking points, scripts, agendas, etc.).

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field.
  • 2-4 years of demonstrated experience working with individual donors.
  • Experience engaging with donors capable of making contributions in the $5,000 - $12,000 range.
  • Familiarity with tax-efficient giving tools and planned giving options.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong follow-up and follow-through capabilities.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and donor management databases.
