Position Overview
The Lead Sustainability Initiatives Specialist will collaborate closely with various business segments and departments to gather and analyze data related to sustainability efforts across Ameren. As a vital member of the corporate sustainability team, the Specialist will be responsible for developing and implementing Ameren's ESG reporting processes, tracking environmental compliance, and providing support for sustainability programs. The ideal candidate will be self-driven, analytically inclined, and possess outstanding written communication skills, along with a background in corporate sustainability to create impactful content for both internal and external reporting. Additionally, the Specialist will conduct research and analysis of sustainability data as needed.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Compile, synthesize, and deliver data for various sustainability reports (e.g., EEI ESG/Sustainability Template, CDP Climate, CDP Water, SASB, GRI, TCFD, and Sustainability Report) and sustainability surveys (e.g., MSCI and Sustainalytics).
  • Collect, compile, monitor, and analyze sustainability data while enhancing data collection and analysis processes as necessary. Develop benchmarking comparisons with peer utilities and organizations.
  • Lead the ESG Score Management Team, which includes maintaining the current ESG rating scorecard, monitoring updates for ESG rating agencies, and engaging with these agencies.
  • Create standard operating procedures that implement best practices for reporting ESG/sustainability metrics.
  • Support the amplification of sustainability/ESG strategies among groups and stakeholders, contributing to presentations and training sessions.
  • Engage in external sustainability groups to acquire best practices.
  • Participate in sustainability reporting initiatives (e.g., CDP, Sustainability Report, St. Louis Green Business Challenge, EPRI Sustainability Benchmarking, etc.) as part of a larger team and prepare reports for internal and external stakeholders.
  • Contribute actively to the development and enhancement of the overall Sustainability/ESG Program through research, program analysis, and benchmarking.
  • Facilitate meetings and represent Ameren at professional gatherings and networking opportunities.
  • Collaborate with others to develop and implement sustainability program initiatives.
  • Lead and support business and company materiality assessments that inform business strategies and sustainability commitments.
  • Assist in coordinating activities for the Sustainability Executive Steering Committee and engage in corporate-level sustainability initiatives as assigned.
  • Maintain the internal sustainability website with regular updates and information sharing, supporting other company sustainability communications plans.
  • Coordinate corporate sustainability and environmental event planning and management as needed.

Qualifications:
A Bachelor's degree in Environmental Science or Engineering, Sustainability, Economics, Business, or a related field from an accredited institution is required. An advanced degree in Sustainability, Environmental Engineering/Science, Environmental Policy, MBA, or a related field is preferred. A minimum of five years of professional experience (including co-op or internship experience) in sustainability and/or environmental fields is required. An advanced degree in sustainability or environmental studies may be considered in lieu of experience. Experience with quantitative and qualitative analysis of environmental data and sustainability topics is preferred. Familiarity with ESG and sustainability or environmental management system data platforms, databases, and tools is a plus.
