At Helping People - United Way of Greater St. Louis, we bring together individuals and organizations to address the most pressing issues in our community. The Leadership Giving Societies play a vital role in our engagement strategies. Over 7,000 community members contribute $1,000 or more to join our Leadership Giving Society. This includes our Women's Leadership Society, Men's Leadership Society, Charmaine Chapman Society, Multicultural Leadership Society, United Young Leaders, and de Tocqueville Societies. Our program, supported by the Regional Business Council, aims to enhance philanthropic access and participation for women and individuals of color.


Core Responsibilities:

  • Oversee a portfolio of Leadership Giving Society contributors, engaging with them regularly to help them achieve their philanthropic objectives.
  • Maintain precise donor records utilizing a proprietary database used by United Way across the nation.
  • Ensure all current, lapsed, and prospective donors are approached in a timely and accurate manner.
  • Verify the accuracy of requests, appeals, and supplementary materials.
  • Represent the Leadership Giving Society at various United Way events, which may occur during evenings and weekends.
  • Design and execute programs and events that support the fundraising goals of the department.
  • Manage our donor step-up initiatives for Leadership Society contributors aiming to transition to the de Tocqueville Society, providing the necessary time and support for their goals.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Collaborative mindset with a dedication to building strong, productive relationships with staff, volunteers, and the community.
  • Ability to juggle multiple projects and prioritize tasks that align with departmental strategies and objectives.
  • Exceptional interpersonal skills to promptly address donor needs, providing value and ensuring high satisfaction.
  • Assist volunteers with managing timelines, coordinating meetings, and preparing supplementary materials (data/reports, talking points, scripts, agendas, etc.).

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field is required.
  • 2-4 years of demonstrated experience working with individual donors.
  • Experience engaging with donors capable of making contributions in the $5,000 - $12,000 range.
  • Familiarity with tax-efficient giving tools and planned giving programs.
  • Strong analytical and critical thinking abilities.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
  • Proficient in follow-up and follow-through practices.
  • Skilled in Microsoft Office applications.
  • Experienced with donor management databases.
