Hays County seeks a dedicated and compassionate Crisis Intervention Specialist to join our team.

In this role, you will provide critical support to individuals experiencing mental health crises, ensuring their safety and well-being while connecting them with appropriate resources.

Responsibilities
  • Respond promptly and effectively to crisis situations involving individuals in distress.
  • Conduct thorough assessments to determine the nature and severity of the crisis.
  • Develop and implement individualized intervention plans tailored to each individual's needs.
  • Provide crisis counseling, support, and de-escalation techniques to stabilize situations.
  • Collaborate with law enforcement, medical professionals, and community agencies to ensure comprehensive care.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of all interactions and interventions.
  • Stay informed about current best practices in crisis intervention and mental health services.
Qualifications

To be successful in this role, you will need:

  • A Bachelor's degree in social work, psychology, or a related field.
  • Experience working with individuals experiencing mental health crises.
  • Knowledge of crisis intervention techniques and de-escalation strategies.
  • Strong communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team in a fast-paced environment.
  • Commitment to ethical practices and client confidentiality.
Additional Requirements

This position may require:

  • Maintaining CANS/ANSA certification.
  • Adherence to professional licensure standards and ethical requirements for counseling services.
Emotional Demands

This role requires the ability to effectively handle sensitive topics and issues, demonstrating compassion and empathy while maintaining a professional demeanor. You will need to obtain, clarify, or provide facts to the public, government officials, and other law enforcement agencies, even in situations where individuals may not be cooperative.

Work Environment

While performing the duties of this job, you may be exposed to variable and/or extreme weather conditions, crime or emergency mental health scenes, and hazardous chemicals/materials. The work involves everyday risks or discomforts requiring safety precautions typical of offices, vehicles, and crime or mental health scenes. You will interact with the public, government officials, medical and mental health providers, and law enforcement agencies at various locations.

You may frequently deal with emergency and physical abuse situations, perform multiple tasks simultaneously, and work an irregular schedule with possible overtime if necessary. The noise level in this work environment is usually moderate.
