Position Overview

Are you passionate about helping students navigate behavioral obstacles to achieve academic success? As a Behavioral Support Specialist , you will play a pivotal role in implementing behavioral strategies within the educational setting and assisting educators in applying effective interventions.

In this role, you will be integral to the school community, striving to create a nurturing and empowering educational environment by addressing and modifying student behaviors. You will work directly with students while also serving as a vital resource for educators, providing coaching, modeling, training, and collaborative strategies to enhance their ability to support student behaviors. Furthermore, you will collaborate with the Multi-Tiered System of Supports (MTSS) team to develop customized interventions and ensure comprehensive behavioral care within the school's Wellness Center. Your responsibilities will include guiding students through therapeutic sessions, equipping them with coping strategies, fostering a calm environment conducive to personal growth, and facilitating targeted small group interventions.

Seneca's Unconditional Education West Bay program collaborates with district schools to deliver services that identify and intervene for the community's most vulnerable children.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver direct behavioral support to students displaying challenging behaviors, including individualized and small group assistance.
  • Maintain accurate documentation of student behavior data, intervention strategies, and progress towards goals, ensuring timely completion of service billing documentation.
  • Collaborate closely with teachers, therapists, and other educational professionals as part of a cohesive team dedicated to supporting student success and well-being.
  • Establish and nurture impactful therapeutic relationships with students, encouraging their active participation in school activities and facilitating their progress towards goals.
  • Provide guidance and coaching to enhance Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) at individual, classroom, and school-wide levels, ensuring effective implementation and ongoing support.
  • Offer targeted coaching for educators and support staff to enhance their behavioral intervention skills and broaden their strategies.
  • Develop and lead group activities designed to promote student academic progress, social skills development, and recreational engagement, aligning with individualized needs and goals.
  • Maintain proactive communication with families and all stakeholders involved in the student's daily life, coordinating with other Seneca programs and external agencies.
  • Participate in Seneca's crisis response model, employing crisis communication and de-escalation techniques to ensure the safety and well-being of all individuals involved.

Qualifications

  • Education/Experience: Bachelor's degree with 2 years of relevant experience, or an Associate degree with 3 years of relevant experience, or a high school diploma/GED with 4 years of relevant experience. Relevant experience is defined as working with children exhibiting extremely challenging behaviors.
  • Reliable transportation to and from various meeting locations.
  • Clearance for TB testing, fingerprinting, and compliance with any other state/federal licensing or certification requirements.
  • Proof of up-to-date COVID-19 vaccination or an HR-approved medical/religious exemption.

Work Schedule

  • School-based schedule: Monday to Friday, 8 AM - 4:30 PM (with flexibility as needed).
  • Benefits include 5 weeks of paid time off, 11 paid holidays, and 14 paid school break days.
