Compensation: $25.00 to $30.00 per hour

Employment Type: Part-Time – Non-Exempt

Key Responsibilities:

  • Engage with residents to monitor their progress and maintain accurate records.
  • Facilitate individual and small group aquatic classes utilizing the Supporting Posture Longevity Agility Strength & Health (SPLASH) program and other suitable exercise methodologies.
  • Enhance resident awareness of healthy lifestyle choices through organization-wide initiatives.
  • Provide regular updates to the Director of Life Enrichment and Transportation regarding the aquatic program, including attendance, feedback, and suggestions for enhancements.
  • Participate in all relevant staff meetings, training sessions, and mandatory events as required by The Redwoods and/or the department.
  • Coordinate equipment maintenance and order necessary supplies under the guidance of the Director of Life Enrichment and Transportation.
  • Report any equipment inspection findings to the Director of Life Enrichment and Transportation.
  • Maintain collaborative relationships with external facilitators, private companions, and healthcare professionals.
  • Report any unsafe conditions or defective equipment to the Director of Life Enrichment and Transportation or their designee.
  • Support volunteers assigned to the wellness program and report any inappropriate conduct promptly.
  • Oversee inventory management of pool supplies and equipment, reporting needs to the Director of Life Enrichment and Transportation.
  • Ensure resident rights to fair treatment, self-determination, privacy, and civil rights are upheld.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications:

  • Certification in Lifeguarding, First Aid, CPR, and AED is required.
  • A bachelor’s degree in a relevant field is preferred (e.g., Exercise Science, Kinesiology, Sports Medicine, Physical Education, Nutrition, Fitness Specialist).
  • Demonstrated ability to design and implement fitness programs tailored to clients' goals using diverse exercise modalities.
  • Experience in teaching fitness techniques to a varied audience.
  • Prior experience working with seniors, with an understanding of appropriate wellness methods for older adults.
  • Proficiency in English sufficient for safe and effective job performance.
  • Must be at least 18 years of age.

Skills and Abilities:

  • Organizational and basic computer skills for planning and implementing resident activities.
  • Effective communication skills to engage a diverse audience (residents, guests, and volunteers).
  • Ability to work independently while being part of a collaborative team.
  • Competence in using gym and workout equipment.
  • Swimming proficiency and capability to assist others in maintaining pool safety.

Physical Requirements:

  • Daily duties require physical effort, including lifting, bending, reaching, and prolonged standing.
  • Must be able to lift and move a minimum of 50 pounds and walk distances across the campus.
  • Ability to perceive and respond to various sensory stimuli necessary for job functions.
  • Manual dexterity is required for handling equipment.
  • Must pass initial and annual TB tests.
  • Capability to perform and demonstrate all aerobic and flexibility exercises for aquatic classes.
