The University of Nevada, Las Vegas is seeking applications for the position of Medical Assistant (Front & Back Office) Administrative Assistant I, UNLV Student Wellness, Student Health Center.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES

The Student Wellness division at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas is looking for a dedicated full-time Front & Back Office Medical Assistant I to enhance our healthcare team at the Student Health Center. The responsibilities of the Medical Assistant include, but are not limited to:

Front Office Responsibilities

  • Efficiently manage appointment scheduling, including confirmations and cancellations.
  • Input and update patient/client information in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Ensure accurate collection and maintenance of patient/client demographic data.
  • Conduct check-in and check-out procedures for patients.
  • Assist patients/clients in navigating the patient portal system.
  • Address and resolve issues related to portal usage.
  • Process payments in accordance with departmental guidelines.
  • Execute daily clinic opening and closing procedures, assisting with reconciliation as needed.
  • Maintain and organize patient accounts in a timely manner.

Reception and Customer Service Duties

  • Welcome and assist patients, clients, and visitors at the Student Wellness Center, providing accurate information about services offered.
  • Monitor and manage patient flow into the clinic area.
  • Respond to messages received through various channels (phone, in-person, electronic).
  • Coordinate patient/client flow with internal departments.
  • Ensure cleanliness and professionalism in the lobby and front desk areas, reporting any maintenance issues promptly.

Back Office Clinical Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough patient intakes, including history taking and vital signs measurement.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and medical procedures.
  • Assist healthcare providers during treatments and examinations.
  • Administer injections and immunizations in accordance with established policies.
  • Maintain and stock examination and treatment areas effectively.
  • Manage inventory of medical supplies and equipment.
  • Document patient interactions accurately in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to respond to emergencies.
  • Educate patients on health promotion and disease prevention strategies.
  • Follow up on patient test results under the supervision of healthcare providers.
  • Prioritize and manage multiple tasks within the clinic environment.
  • Provide compassionate and professional care to all patients.
  • Adhere to universal precautions and infection control protocols.
  • Participate in quality assurance and safety drills.
  • Maintain confidentiality of health information and uphold patient privacy rights.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

All minimum qualifications have been waived for this position until further notice. Candidates should possess a high school diploma or equivalent, along with one year of clerical experience in areas such as record maintenance and telephone communication; OR six months of experience as an Administrative Aid in state service; OR a combination of education and experience as described.

Completion of a medical assistant program or equivalent experience in a healthcare setting is required. Valid CPR certification is mandatory.

All candidates must successfully complete a background screening.

This role is classified as a healthcare position and requires compliance with federal vaccination mandates.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

National certification as a medical assistant is preferred.
