The University of Nevada, Las Vegas is seeking applications for Medical Assistant (Front & Back Office) Administrative Assistant I, UNLV Student Wellness, Student Health Center.

POSITION ROLE

The Student Wellness division at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas is looking for a full-time Front & Back Office Medical Assistant I to enhance our healthcare team at the Student Health Center. The responsibilities of the Medical Assistant include, but are not limited to:

Front Office Responsibilities

  • Efficiently manage appointment scheduling, including confirmations and cancellations.
  • Input and update patient/client information in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Verify and maintain accurate patient/client demographic information.
  • Conduct check-in and check-out processes for patients.
  • Assist patients/clients with navigating the patient portal.
  • Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to portal usage.
  • Process payments in accordance with departmental guidelines.
  • Execute daily clinic opening and closing procedures, including reconciliation tasks.
  • Maintain organized and timely updates of patient accounts.

Reception and Customer Service Duties

  • Greet patients, clients, and visitors warmly upon their arrival, providing essential information about services.
  • Manage the flow of individuals entering the clinic area.
  • Respond to messages received through various channels (phone, in-person, electronic).
  • Coordinate patient/client and visitor flow with internal departments.
  • Ensure the lobby and front desk areas are tidy and professional, reporting any maintenance issues promptly.

Back Office Clinical Responsibilities

  • Conduct thorough patient intakes, including history taking and vital signs measurement.
  • Prepare patients for examinations and medical procedures.
  • Assist healthcare providers during treatments and examinations.
  • Administer injections and immunizations following established protocols.
  • Maintain and stock examination and treatment areas efficiently.
  • Document patient information accurately in the electronic health record (EHR) system.
  • Collaborate with healthcare providers to respond to emergencies.
  • Educate patients on health promotion and disease prevention strategies.
  • Follow up on patient test results under the supervision of healthcare providers.
  • Manage multiple tasks effectively within the clinic environment.
  • Provide compassionate and professional care to all patients.
  • Adhere to infection control protocols and maintain confidentiality of health information.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Graduation from high school or equivalent education, along with one year of clerical experience, which includes maintaining records and answering telephones; OR six months of experience as an Administrative Aid in state service; OR an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Completion of a medical assistant program or relevant experience in a healthcare setting is required. A valid CPR certification is also necessary.

All candidates must successfully complete a background screening.

This position is classified as a healthcare role and requires compliance with federal vaccination mandates.

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS

National certification as a medical assistant is preferred.
