Overview

The Energy Service Technician is responsible for the installation, upkeep, and repair of propane and oil heating systems, HVAC units, and associated appliances for customers of Southern States Cooperative, Inc. (SSC). This role may also involve maintenance and repair of diesel or gasoline equipment, ensuring compliance with all relevant regulations and SSC operational standards while working autonomously.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain ongoing communication with facility management regarding service dispatching for new installations, repairs, and maintenance of systems and appliances. Provide timely updates on job progress, material supply, and other essential factors.
  • Safely install and repair propane, oil, diesel, and gasoline systems in accordance with federal and state regulations. Adjust equipment settings accurately and utilize specialized skills in HVAC, mechanical, electrical, plumbing, and more.
  • Interpret and analyze electrical and mechanical blueprints, manuals, and diagrams to execute installations and repairs. Gather data to diagnose issues and troubleshoot systems effectively.
  • Deliver exceptional service to customers, representing SSC positively. Communicate professionally, provide operational instructions for serviced equipment, and manage account details, including payment collection and future service confirmations.
  • Engage with current and potential customers regarding new equipment sales. Conduct site assessments to determine product needs and assist customers in making informed decisions.
  • Operate SSC commercial vehicles in compliance with safety regulations and company policies. Perform routine vehicle maintenance to ensure operational efficiency.
  • Load and deliver propane and other fuels as needed, adhering to standard operating procedures. Manage fuel distribution from SSC facilities or third-party terminals.
  • Prepare and maintain accurate records, including invoices, reports, and maintenance logs, ensuring timely documentation.
  • Keep comprehensive files on service manuals, parts manuals, and service bulletins. Maintain records for all sold equipment, including design specifications and service history.
  • Ensure all warranty parts are returned to suppliers with the necessary information for credit processing.
  • Manage parts inventory effectively, assist with physical inventory counts, and support shipping and receiving as required.
  • Participate in training and certification programs to enhance skills and stay updated on industry standards.
  • Maintain a clean and organized work environment, ensuring tools and equipment are stored properly and waste is disposed of according to SSC procedures.
  • Adhere to safety protocols to prevent harm to oneself, customers, and property. Utilize Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) as necessary and comply with all relevant regulations.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education: High School Diploma or General Education Degree (GED) is required.

Experience: A minimum of two years of experience in the installation and repair of propane or oil heating systems (HVAC), as well as diesel and gasoline equipment, is necessary. Previous experience with Southern States is advantageous.

Licensing Requirements

  • HVAC, Liquid Propane Gas Fitter, or related trade license is required.
  • Petroleum and/or Propane Certification (or ability to obtain) is necessary.
  • Commercial Driver's License (Class C or Class B, depending on location) is required.
  • Hazardous Materials and/or Tanker Endorsement (or ability to obtain) is necessary.

Work Environment

This position involves working in various settings, including driving commercial vehicles and performing tasks at customer sites, often outdoors and in warehouse environments subject to seasonal conditions.

Physical Requirements

This role demands continuous physical activity, including lifting, bending, and operating equipment. Candidates must be able to lift up to 50 pounds regularly and may occasionally handle heavier loads with assistance.
