Position Overview:
The Commonwealth of Virginia is seeking a dedicated and skilled Postdoctoral Research Associate in the field of Environmental Sciences. This role focuses on the assessment and forecasting of forest soil biogeochemical dynamics that influence nutrient and toxic element ecosystem services across various forested regions.

Key Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will:
- Conduct comprehensive analyses to understand the spatial and temporal variability of ecosystem services, essential for effective land management.
- Utilize existing datasets and generate new data to explore nutrient cycling and toxic element sequestration.
- Collaborate with a multi-institutional team to gather and synthesize geochemical and physicochemical soil data.
- Employ geospatial tools (e.g., ArcMap, QGIS) and process-based biogeochemistry models (e.g., CENTURY model, PnET) to forecast the movement and storage of nutrients and elements in forest soils.
- Mentor undergraduate and graduate students, participate in field sampling, and engage in all phases of research projects from inception to publication.

Qualifications:
- A PhD in Earth or Environmental Sciences, Biogeochemistry, Soil Science, or a related discipline is required.
- Proven ability to work collaboratively in a diverse team environment.
- Two first-author peer-reviewed publications are necessary.
- A valid Driver's License is required for field site travel.

Preferred Skills:
- Background in forest ecosystem science, including coursework and field experience.
- Proficiency in programming and modeling using R, Matlab, or Python is advantageous.
- Experience in mentoring and project management is desirable.

Physical Requirements:
This role involves a combination of data analysis and technical writing, alongside outdoor fieldwork during the growing season. Candidates should be prepared to carry equipment and samples weighing up to 40 lbs and may require occasional overnight travel for professional engagements.
