We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Postdoctoral Research Associate to join our team at the Child Health Research Center in the Department of Pediatrics at the University of Virginia's School of Medicine. The successful candidate will be responsible for conducting research studies in the laboratory of Dr. Araceli Santiago, focusing on understanding the role of ANR (AraC negative regulators) in the pathogenesis of diarrheagenic E. coli.
Key Responsibilities- Design and execute research studies to investigate molecular mechanisms of ANRs in the pathogenesis of Enteroaggregative E. coli (EAEC) and other E. coli pathotypes of public health importance.
- Work independently and collaboratively on several projects, employing molecular techniques and human intestinal stem cells.
- Analyze, evaluate, and present data with the goal of publishing and securing extramural funding.
- Prepare manuscripts and posters for national symposiums.
- Remain current with the appropriate research literature.
- Participate in lab meetings and relevant science seminars.
- Supervise and mentor junior researchers as needed.
- Ph.D. in Microbiology, Immunology, Cell and Molecular Biology, or related field at the time of hire.
- At least one first-authored publication in a peer-reviewed journal.
- Experience working with pathogenic E. coli.
- Experience working with small laboratory animals.
- Demonstrated skills in cell and molecular biology, including cell culture and general techniques of recombinant DNA and protein purification.
- Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
- Ability to effectively interact with a diverse group of scientists and students.
- Experience in research grant writing and management.
- Publication record in high-impact journals.
- Experience in supervising and mentoring junior researchers.
