Key Responsibilities:

  • Report directly to the Board of Directors and the CEO, responsible for the formulation, implementation, and supervision of an effective Compliance and Privacy program, working collaboratively to achieve organizational objectives.
  • Engage with the General Counsel to stay updated on strategic initiatives and organizational goals.
  • Maintain regular communication with medical staff, community leaders, government entities, and legal advisors to fulfill the objectives of the compliance program.
  • Oversee the establishment and maintenance of the privacy program, ensuring adherence to federal and state privacy regulations.

Compliance Duties:

  • Design and manage the daily operations of the compliance program, ensuring alignment with regulatory requirements and internal policies.
  • Contribute to key compliance initiatives and represent the organization in relevant meetings and committees.
  • Identify organizational risks and provide recommendations to senior leadership regarding system controls and policies.
  • Assess regulatory requirements and their operational impacts, advising operational units and preparing reports for senior leadership.
  • Maintain a management reporting system that delivers timely and relevant compliance information.
  • Lead Compliance Committee meetings, preparing agendas and reports as necessary.
  • Develop annual compliance and privacy work plans for the organization.
  • Ensure effective compliance education programs for new hires and ongoing training for existing employees.
  • Establish and maintain a Compliance Hotline for reporting concerns and provide consultative support across the organization.
  • Monitor compliance investigations and corrective action plans, ensuring consistency in applying the Code of Conduct Policy.
  • Evaluate the effectiveness of compliance programs through data analysis and audit findings.

Privacy Duties:

  • Guide the development and maintenance of information privacy policies in collaboration with management and legal counsel.
  • Conduct initial and ongoing privacy risk assessments and compliance monitoring activities.
  • Ensure the organization maintains appropriate privacy consent and authorization forms in accordance with legal requirements.
  • Deliver privacy training and orientation to all employees and relevant stakeholders.
  • Oversee compliance monitoring of business associate agreements to address privacy concerns.
  • Implement mechanisms to track access to protected health information as required by law.
  • Collaborate with relevant departments to uphold patient rights regarding protected health information.
  • Administer processes for documenting and addressing complaints related to privacy policies.
  • Stay informed about federal and state privacy laws and advancements in privacy technologies.

Qualifications:

  • Preferred: Master's Degree.
  • Extensive experience as a Chief Compliance Officer in a complex, multi-location healthcare system.
  • Proven track record in leading compliance teams within healthcare settings.
  • Experience in reporting and presenting to Boards and Committees.
  • Demonstrated ability to utilize data management for enhanced reporting and presentations.
  • Experience in improving compliance and privacy training and communication to foster employee engagement.
