Job Summary/Basic Function:
The primary responsibility of this role is to oversee custodial personnel and operations across a large multi-facility campus, ensuring high standards of cleanliness and maintenance.

Level Scope:
This position provides direct supervision to a team of operational staff, ensuring compliance with established policies and procedures while managing resources effectively.
Essential Functions:
60% of Time the Facilities Operations Manager must:
  • Lead a substantial permanent staff through subordinate supervisors in a diverse campus environment that includes various facilities.
  • Develop long-term strategies for custodial services, including work standards, staffing, and cleaning methodologies; oversee custodial operations and budget management; coordinate contracts for facility maintenance and improvements; plan and schedule cleaning activities and event preparations; and evaluate new products and techniques.
  • Conduct hiring and performance evaluations; orient new hires; lead safety training and incident investigations; address service complaints; and facilitate team meetings.
35% of Time the Facilities Operations Manager must:
  • Supervise Custodian Leadworkers and part-time custodial staff.
  • Manage scheduling and event planning tasks.
  • Coordinate communication with part-time housekeeping personnel.
  • Act as the Housekeeping Manager on Duty during events, rotating responsibilities with other leadership staff.
  • Collaborate with the Assistant Director of Environmental Services to establish work priorities and schedules, minimizing disruption to daily operations.
  • Oversee pre-event facility inspections to ensure cleanliness.
  • Maintain and evaluate cleaning tools and materials for effectiveness and safety.
  • Monitor inventory of custodial supplies and equipment.
  • Ensure compliance with facility security protocols.
  • Provide ongoing feedback on cleaning tasks and identify areas for improvement.
  • Manage cleaning and maintenance project schedules.
  • Adhere to applicable health and safety guidelines.
  • Maintain safety training records and ensure compliance with safety standards.
  • Document custodial supply inventory.
  • Oversee facility usage to ensure adherence to policies.
  • Update standard operating procedures as necessary.
  • Be prepared to cover for immediate supervisor as needed.
5% of Time the Facilities Operations Manager must:
  • Perform additional duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
  • Understanding of customer service principles, including needs assessment and quality standards.
  • Familiarity with management principles related to strategic planning and resource allocation.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and prioritize tasks.
Minimum Qualifications:
Extensive knowledge of custodial practices, safety protocols, and sanitation standards.

Experience in managing custodial teams and operations, overseeing supply procurement, resolving service disputes, leading meetings, maintaining records, and developing training programs.
