Position Overview

Under the guidance of the Coyotes Achieve Program Coordinator, the Academic Coach will provide essential peer support to incoming undergraduate students at CSUSB. This role is pivotal in assisting students with their academic objectives, particularly in fulfilling General Education (GE) requirements.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Act as a primary contact for participants in the Coyotes Achieve program.
  • Engage in effective communication through various channels, including verbal, written, and electronic methods.
  • Conduct individual or small group meetings with students to explore educational aspirations, both in-person and via virtual platforms.
  • Offer insights into university policies and procedures.
  • Facilitate referrals to additional campus resources such as the Writing Center, Tutoring, Supplemental Instruction, Math Coaching, and Mentoring services.
  • Organize and lead workshops and events aimed at student development.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Ability to learn and execute assigned tasks; follow verbal instructions; collaborate effectively with faculty, staff, and peers; communicate proficiently with diverse groups; and read and write in English at a level suitable for the position.
  • Special Qualification: Must be admitted or registered as a CSU student.

Required Qualifications:

  • Maintain a minimum GPA of 2.0 each semester and cumulatively.
  • Students must be enrolled in at least half-time units at CSUSB (6 units for undergraduates; 3 units for graduates).
  • International students are required to maintain full-time enrollment at CSUSB (12 units for undergraduates; 6 units for graduates).
  • Eligibility to work in the United States.
  • Payroll Requirement: Possession of a Social Security Card.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Preference will be given to candidates who have completed a year of coursework at CSUSB, hold upper division standing, and have fulfilled most or all General Education (GE) requirements.
  • Familiarity with software applications such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, and Excel is advantageous.
  • Exhibit proper phone etiquette, uphold high ethical standards, and maintain confidentiality; demonstrate the ability to learn quickly, work independently and collaboratively, communicate effectively with diverse populations, problem-solve, and possess strong public speaking and interpersonal skills.
  • Attention to detail and a commitment to fostering the intellectual and personal growth of CSUSB students.

Compensation and Benefits:

The anticipated hiring range for student employment is $16.00 per hour. Compensation will be determined based on internal equity and experience, among other factors.

Position Information:

Work status: Part-Time, Temporary, Seasonal.

Available Hours:

Academic year: Monday through Friday (8:00 am – 5:00 pm).

Summer: Monday through Thursday (7:00 am - 5:30 pm).

This position is designated as 'On-Campus Only.' Student employees are not permitted to telecommute.
