Catholic Charities of the Diocese of Albany is seeking a dedicated and compassionate individual to join our team as a Long Term Care Ombudsman. As a valued member of our organization, you will play a critical role in advocating for the rights and dignity of elderly residents in long-term care facilities.

Key Responsibilities
  • Represent the Ombudsman program by reviewing and responding to resident, family, and community member complaints regarding LTC facilities, maintaining the highest level of confidentiality.
  • Meet with residents and family members, conduct investigations around complaints, and interview facility staff.
  • Effectively manage and prioritize complaints received, ensuring a timely and relevant response to all complaints assigned, utilizing conflict resolution techniques and strategies.
  • Advocate for resident rights, including avoidance of elder abuse, mistreatment, and neglect.
  • Liaison with resident councils in all LTC facilities, provide presentations for staff, residents, and community regarding Ombudsman services, resident rights, and other pertinent topics.
  • Enter data into databases accurately and timely, and report to Program Director on outcomes, trends, and activities.
  • Support a corps of volunteer ombudsmen through providing training and guidance in complaint handling.
Requirements
  • Bachelor's Degree in social work, human services, health, public administration, gerontology, law, or related fields.
  • A valid driver's license and maintain required vehicle insurance with access to a vehicle during work hours.
  • Experience working with older adults in a long-term care facility or as an advocate is strongly preferred.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office software and other computer applications.
