POSITION SUMMARY:

The Community Engagement Specialist plays a vital role in fostering public awareness and participation in the mission of BeTheMatch. This position is responsible for educating and motivating diverse communities through various outreach initiatives, including presentations, awareness campaigns, and recruitment events.

Key responsibilities include establishing and nurturing relationships to drive engagement and commitment to the BeTheMatch registry. Target audiences for outreach efforts include:
  • Educational institutions such as colleges and vocational schools
  • Community organizations and coalitions
  • Corporate partners
  • Service sectors, including emergency response units
The focus is on enhancing the diversity of the national registry by engaging and educating ethnically diverse populations.

This role is dedicated to delivering exceptional service through the planning and execution of awareness and recruitment activities that align with organizational goals. Collaboration with internal teams, such as marketing and volunteer services, as well as external partners, is essential for maximizing outreach effectiveness. Continuous learning about HLA and blood stem cell transplantation is crucial for effectively educating target audiences.

The Community Engagement Specialist will work collaboratively with a regional team to achieve monthly, quarterly, and annual enrollment objectives. This is a remote position.

ACCOUNTABILITIES:

Community Leadership:
  • Develops and maintains relationships within ethnically diverse communities, engaging with community leaders, organizations, and local media to coordinate outreach efforts.
  • Communicates effectively through public speaking and written formats to promote the BeTheMatch mission and increase participation among diverse populations.
  • Identifies innovative community engagement strategies and provides feedback to enhance outreach initiatives.
  • Collaborates with internal teams to create annual engagement and recruitment strategies that meet diversity goals.
  • Plans and executes mission-driven events (both live and virtual) to ensure a positive experience for participants and community partners.
  • Educates potential volunteer donors about the mission and the donation process, ensuring they are well-informed and committed.
  • Develops an annual activity plan focusing on outreach at target educational institutions.
Partnership Development:
  • Works with internal and external partners to ensure strategic goals are met.
  • Collaborates with transplant centers to identify families interested in supporting outreach efforts.
  • Provides support to families and refers them to appropriate services as needed.
  • Shares impactful stories with marketing teams to enhance outreach efforts.
  • Represents BeTheMatch at media events and communicates opportunities to marketing teams.
  • Engages in team collaboration to support donor recruitment and experience initiatives.
Volunteer Management:
  • Engages with community groups to inform them about BeTheMatch activities and recruit volunteers.
  • Works with teams to recruit and retain volunteers, ensuring they are properly trained and supported.
  • Monitors volunteer engagement and tracks data effectively.
  • Participates in volunteer recognition activities.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Proficiently use Microsoft Office and other relevant software.
  • Willingness to travel as needed.
Education and Experience:
  • Bachelor's degree in a related field or equivalent experience.
  • Experience in community development or outreach is preferred.
  • Minimum of two years in a role involving sales, community engagement, or event planning.
