About Us:

The Metropolitan Council serves as the regional government for the Twin Cities metropolitan area, focusing on long-term planning and providing essential services such as transportation, wastewater management, and housing. Role Overview:

We are looking for two Community Engagement Specialists to join our team. These positions will be based in Minneapolis and will focus on different projects: one will support Arterial Bus Rapid Transit initiatives, while the other will assist with Engineering and Facilities projects. These roles are vital for promoting effective communication and engagement with the community, enhancing inclusivity, and garnering support for our initiatives.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Plan and execute outreach activities such as public hearings, focus groups, and surveys to engage the public in Metro Transit initiatives.
  • Represent assigned projects at public events and meetings in the absence of management.
  • Act as a liaison between Project Office staff and consultants.
  • Collaborate with the Manager of Public Involvement to ensure consistent communication with communities affected by transit projects.
  • Respond to inquiries and provide information regarding project details.
  • Track public feedback to assist in refining communication strategies and outreach materials.
  • Maintain stakeholder contact lists and ensure communication tools are up-to-date.
  • Perform administrative duties such as taking meeting minutes and preparing agendas.
  • Complete other related tasks as required.

Qualifications:

Candidates should possess a combination of relevant experience in public affairs or community relations, along with education in fields such as Planning, Urban Studies, Communication, Public Affairs, or Political Science. Acceptable qualifications include:

  • High school diploma/GED with seven years of experience.
  • Associate degree with five years of experience.
  • Bachelor's degree or higher with three years of experience.

Preferred Skills:

  • Degree in a relevant field.
  • Experience in event coordination and community outreach.
  • Knowledge of transit/transportation systems.
  • Experience in non-profit or government sectors.
  • Proficiency in a second language is a plus.

Work Environment:

This position typically operates in an office setting but may require travel to various locations for public engagement activities. Participation in outdoor events may also be necessary.
