Facility Overview

Located in Newark, New Jersey, our Essex County Resource Recovery Facility is an award-winning Waste-to-Energy Facility that provides reliable and sustainable waste management services to multiple municipalities.

We are dedicated to minimizing environmental impacts while ensuring safe operations and have consistently received recognition for our exceptional operational standards.

Role Overview

Reporting to the Facility Manager, the Operations Manager is responsible for overseeing the operational responsibilities of the Power Plant, leading a team of both direct and indirect reports. This role offers numerous opportunities for learning, development, and career advancement across various plants within the organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Deliver exceptional environmental, health, and safety leadership to ensure zero accidents and no harm to individuals or the environment.
  • Lead and mentor personnel to effectively manage tasks aligned with operational objectives.
  • Provide oversight to maintain optimal boiler and turbine performance.
  • Coordinate work and projects with other departments to ensure efficient daily operations.
  • Administer studies aimed at enhancing plant operations and monitor the effectiveness of operational manuals and procedures.
  • Conduct audits to ensure compliance with established procedures.
  • Prepare the plant for unusual situations while ensuring safe and efficient day-to-day operations.
  • Inspect boilers and machinery to meet performance targets and manage technical training programs.
  • Compile and present various technical reports.
  • Maintain cleanliness and safety in the operations areas.

Qualifications

The ideal candidate will possess a B.S. in Engineering or equivalent supervisory/managerial experience in plant operations. Experience in power plant operations or high-pressure boiler systems is essential, along with a solid understanding of operational processes.

Preferred Experience

  • 10+ years in a supervisory or managerial role within an industrial or power-generating facility.
  • Experience in specialty chemical plants or coal-fired power plants is highly desirable.
  • Maintenance experience with rotating and electrical generation equipment.

Additional Skills

  • Strong interpersonal, verbal, and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work off-hours and be on-call as needed.
  • Hands-on, analytical approach with a focus on continuous improvement.
  • Proficient in troubleshooting and root cause analysis.
