Position Overview

Role Summary

The Steam Plant Technician is tasked with overseeing the functionality of the steam generation systems and associated processes.

Key Responsibilities

This job description does not limit management's authority to assign or reassign tasks and responsibilities at any time.

  • Ignites the boiler; may manage various types of boilers including water tube, coal, gas, or biomass.
  • Inspects the reverse osmosis system.
  • Monitors the feed water, boiler water, water softening systems, and chemical treatment units.
  • Administers chemical treatments on a daily basis.
  • Observes oil temperatures in turbine bearings; gauges oil levels in underground storage tanks.
  • Conducts daily lubrication and maintenance tasks.
  • Performs coal inventory checks; ensures cleanliness around the coal storage area.
  • Ensures that equipment and workspaces are tidy after each shift.
  • Prioritizes safety in compliance with all organizational safety protocols and regulations.

Required Qualifications

  • 1-2 years of relevant experience in steam plant operations and/or processing facilities.
  • Possession of a valid NJ Blue Seal Boiler Operator's license.

Preferred Qualifications

  • High School diploma or equivalent is preferred.
  • Familiarity with water tube boilers, combustion principles, water quality, and steam production.
  • Basic mathematical skills; capable of performing calculations related to heating and fuel consumption rates.
  • Effective verbal and written communication skills.
  • Willingness to work nights and/or weekends as required.

Physical Requirements

  • Regularly required to walk, stand, sit, climb, balance, stoop, kneel, crawl, and crouch.
  • Frequently must push, pull, move, or lift items weighing up to 50 lbs.
  • Regularly required to reach with hands and arms.

Work Environment

Job responsibilities will be performed in a processing facility that necessitates adaptability to wet and/or slippery surfaces, as well as exposure to high heat and/or cold conditions.
