Position Overview:
The Idaho National Laboratory is seeking a dedicated Analytical Chemist to contribute to the Analytical Research Laboratories Division. This role operates on a 4x10 schedule, providing a unique work-life balance with every Friday off.
As a leading national laboratory for the Department of Energy, INL is at the forefront of nuclear research and development. The Materials and Fuels Complex (MFC) is equipped with exceptional personnel and facilities, enabling comprehensive research and development of nuclear fuels, from initial fabrication to post-irradiation analysis.
Key Responsibilities:
- Utilize chemical measurements to identify materials and analyze the composition of various compounds, solutions, and mixtures, including the development of innovative methods for chemical analysis.
- Conduct research to provide essential chemical, radiochemical, and physical measurements, as well as non-destructive analysis to support nuclear and environmental initiatives.
- Analyze and characterize both pre and post-irradiated nuclear fuels and materials.
- Engage in analytical chemistry to assist in nuclear forensics and burnup assessments.
- Develop methodologies for elemental and isotopic separations.
- Determine stable and radioisotopic content across diverse sample types and matrices.
- Perform hands-on laboratory work with radioactive samples utilizing fume hoods, gloveboxes, and shielded hotcells.
- Operate and troubleshoot advanced laboratory equipment, including mass spectrometers, HPGe detectors, and ICP-OES.
- Design experiments to gather data that supports scientific advancements and evaluates new research concepts within specialized areas.
- Collaborate with interdisciplinary teams of scientists, engineers, and technical resources.
- Act as a technical liaison with other divisions regarding analytical capabilities, partnering with laboratory R&D customers and project principal investigators.
Minimum Qualifications:
- Bachelor's degree in chemistry, analytical chemistry, biochemistry, chemical engineering, biology, geology, or a related field from an accredited institution, with relevant experience in academia, private industry, or nuclear sectors.
- Ability to obtain and maintain a Department of Energy "L" / "Q" clearance, requiring U.S. Citizenship.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Advanced degree in chemistry, biochemistry, or a related field from an accredited institution.

- Competitive pay range: Level # 440 ($75,804-$155,496) / Level 450 ($91,008 - $186,588), determined by education, experience, and credentials.
