Job Overview

POSITION SUMMARY:

As a key member of the Facilities team, this role serves as the primary authority on safety and security protocols for various locations managed by the Children's Home Society of WA. The individual will be tasked with the creation and implementation of safety and security policies and procedures, ensuring a secure environment across all facilities. Responsibilities include overseeing safety practices, identifying hazardous conditions, managing emergency protocols, conducting thorough health and safety inspections, and mitigating risks associated with workplace safety and violence.

CORE RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Assess and enhance existing safety practices. Develop, implement, and communicate a comprehensive safety and security program for all facilities managed by the organization.
  • Oversee and analyze health and safety inspection improvement plans.
  • Establish processes for reviewing and reporting safety and security incidents, and develop actionable improvement strategies.
  • Identify areas of risk related to safety and security. Create and implement culturally sensitive and trauma-informed solutions to mitigate these risks.
  • Formulate a detailed plan for the prioritization and execution of security programs across all agency buildings, including conducting risk assessments and crisis response planning.
  • Act as the main liaison for all safety and security initiatives between staff, contractors, and leadership.
  • Design and implement emergency preparedness plans, including evacuation drills and safety training for all employees.
  • Coordinate and track training sessions to ensure all staff are knowledgeable about best practices for maintaining safe facilities.
  • Respond effectively to emergencies and align strategies with the organizational culture.
  • Maintain and update corporate safety and security policies and documentation.
  • Lead health and safety committee meetings and ensure compliance with relevant regulations.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • 3 to 5 years of experience in safety and security management within a non-profit or community-based organization, ideally in early childhood education.
  • Strong understanding of security management best practices and threat assessment in multi-site organizations.
  • Familiarity with health and safety regulations, including OSHA and WISHA.
  • Proven ability to implement accident prevention and mitigation strategies.
  • Valid driver's license and a clean driving record.

WORK ENVIRONMENT:

This position is primarily office-based, with a professional environment characterized by moderate noise levels and standard office conditions. Occasional travel to various site locations may be required.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

  • Regularly required to stand, sit, and use hands for computer and phone operations.
  • Must be able to maintain focus during extended periods of computer work.
