Summary:
The King County Facilities Management Division (FMD) is seeking qualified and experienced security professionals to join our team as Short-Term Temporary (STT) Security Specialists. The Security Management team is responsible for ensuring the safety of facilities, managing access control, operating an emergency dispatch center, and overseeing lost and found operations.

STT Security Specialists are essential for covering shifts due to time-off requests and unexpected absences. This position offers an excellent opportunity for security professionals looking to expand their experience or earn additional income. It also provides valuable insight into King County as an employer.

  • This recruitment is aimed at filling Short-Term Temporary (STT) roles.
  • The work performed in these positions is temporary and short-term, adhering to a specified hour limit annually.
  • STT roles are non-exempt and eligible for overtime, but do not qualify for county benefits.
  • King County FMD Security operates 24 hours a day, and staff may be required at various King County facilities.
  • Security Specialists will work a flexible schedule, including 8-hour and/or 10-hour shifts, covering evenings, weekends, and holidays.
  • Staff will report to multiple locations throughout King County for work and training purposes.

Job Duties:
The ideal candidates will demonstrate the ability to:
  • Protect County property from damage or loss; enforce safety regulations, and manage access to assigned County premises.
  • Conduct security checks of assigned areas, inspect doors, windows, and building perimeters, and document any criminal activity or unsafe conditions.
  • Ensure the safety of County employees and authorized individuals, providing escort services when necessary.
  • Address disturbances, manage unruly individuals, and remove unauthorized persons from County premises.
  • Collaborate with local law enforcement to address threats to public safety, County employees, or property.
  • Monitor security desks, maintain activity logs, and oversee building fire alarm systems and CCTV surveillance.
  • Prepare detailed incident reports and documentation of security concerns.
  • Perform after-hours security duties in Courthouses and assist with emergency repair requests.
  • Complete other assigned duties as required.
Experience, Qualifications, Knowledge, Skills:
The ideal candidate will possess:
  • A High School diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Successful completion of a public safety academy.
  • Prior professional security experience.
  • Effective communication skills and the ability to convey complex ideas to diverse audiences.
  • A customer-focused approach to building positive relationships with clients and stakeholders.
  • Commitment to organizational values and ethical behavior.
  • Strong judgment and the ability to assess situations quickly and respond appropriately.
  • Knowledge of defensive tactics and legal protections for individuals and property.
Necessary Requirements:
  • Ability to work any shift as required.
  • Capability to wear a ballistic vest throughout the assigned shift, except during approved breaks.
  • A valid Washington State driver's license and the ability to travel throughout King County.
  • Successful completion of a thorough background investigation and pre-employment physical examination.
  • This position is represented by the King County Security Guild.
  • This role is designated as mission critical, essential for maintaining County services during emergencies.
