Work hours may fluctuate due to environmental conditions, seasonal changes, campus activities, and emergencies. Overtime may be required with minimal notice. Purpose

The primary objective of this role is to supervise field personnel and perform essential landscaping tasks, ensuring the upkeep and aesthetic appeal of the university's campus landscape.

Responsibilities
  • Provide leadership in maintaining campus grounds and remote locations using various large equipment, including riding mowers, tractors, and other necessary tools for effective landscape management.
  • Ensure landscape maintenance meets university standards. Report any hazardous conditions on campus, particularly those related to landscaping, such as trip hazards and broken limbs.
  • Safely operate landscaping machinery, including riding mowers and other essential tools.
  • Transport crew members and equipment using university-owned vehicles, adhering to established driving policies.
  • Perform routine maintenance on landscaping equipment, ensuring all tools are in good working condition.
  • Follow safety protocols and maintain a clean and organized work environment.
  • Accept and execute written and verbal instructions while adhering to schedules set by supervisors. Attend departmental meetings and required safety training.
  • Complete basic computer tasks, including reviewing daily labor reports and assessing staff performance.
  • Other related duties may be assigned, including collaboration with other university departments.
  • Ability to lift, push, and pull weights up to 50 lbs, including moving materials and performing manual labor tasks.
Required Qualifications

High school diploma or GED. A minimum of 4 years of experience in landscape maintenance, including at least 1 year in a supervisory role. Proficiency in using landscape equipment. A valid Class "C" driver's license is required, along with a Motor Vehicle Report (MVR) demonstrating a clean driving history.

Relevant education and experience may be considered as substitutes.

Preferred Qualifications

Post-secondary education or formal training in horticulture or a related field. Technical certifications in landscaping or horticulture. Over 4 years of experience in landscape care within institutional or commercial settings. Pesticide Applicator license issued by the Texas Department of Agriculture.

Driving Required

This position necessitates a Class "C" driver's license. The selected candidate must provide a current driving record from their state of residence.

Salary Range

$41,600 + based on qualifications
