POSITION SUMMARY:

This role involves a semi-skilled labor position focused on the upkeep and maintenance of the County's sports complex, athletic fields, and various facilities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following duties outline the primary responsibilities of this position, though they are not exhaustive. Additional tasks may be assigned as necessary.

  • Maintain grounds by cleaning, planting, fertilizing, mowing, trimming, weeding, and caring for lawns and recreational areas.
  • Install and repair irrigation systems and sprinklers.
  • Assist in the landscaping of facilities.
  • Construct and mend fences.
  • Prepare and condition playing fields, including laying sod and seeding bare areas.
  • Edge around buildings, sidewalks, and parking lots.
  • Operate tractors, power tools, chainsaws, edgers, and other light machinery as required.
  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on groundskeeping equipment.
  • Engage in masonry and concrete tasks.
  • Uphold a professional and safe work environment, adhering to established safety protocols and the organization’s standards.
  • Follow Board policies and procedures consistently.
  • Adapt to changes and perform other related duties as directed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

  • Familiarity with general gardening and grounds maintenance practices.
  • Understanding of the tools and methods used in groundskeeping.
  • Proficiency in using gardening tools and equipment.
  • Capability to operate light construction machinery and vehicles.
  • Ability to comprehend and convey oral and written instructions.
  • Knowledge of water safety and operation of watercraft.
  • Skill in maintaining effective working relationships with colleagues, supervisors, and the public.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to remain stationary for 25% of the time and frequently operate various equipment, including hand and power tools. The role requires frequent movement under or around various objects to complete maintenance tasks, as well as the ability to ascend and descend stairs, ladders, and scaffolding. The position involves moving materials and equipment weighing up to 40 lbs and communicating effectively with the public and coworkers. Work is often performed outdoors, and may require enduring inclement weather conditions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

High school graduation or an equivalent diploma is preferred. A minimum of two years of experience in general grounds maintenance or labor work is required.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

A valid Florida Driver's License, Class A, is required.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

This position is designated as Disaster Essential.
