Reports to: Parks & Facilities Supervisor

Pay Grade/Salary Range: 104 - $29, $44,591.64

POSITION SUMMARY:

This role involves a semi-skilled labor position dedicated to the upkeep and maintenance of County sports complexes, athletic fields, and various other facilities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following outlines the primary duties associated with this position, though additional tasks may be assigned as necessary:

  • Maintain grounds through cleaning, planting, fertilizing, mowing, trimming, weeding, and overall upkeep of lawns and recreational areas.
  • Install and repair irrigation systems and sprinkler units.
  • Assist in the landscaping of facilities.
  • Construct and repair fencing.
  • Prepare and condition playing fields, including laying sod and seeding bare areas.
  • Edge around buildings, sidewalks, and parking lots.
  • Operate tractors, power tools, chainsaws, edgers, and other light machinery as required.
  • Perform maintenance, cleaning, and minor repairs on groundskeeping equipment.
  • Engage in masonry and concrete tasks.
  • Ensure a professional and safe work environment by adhering to established safety protocols and organizational standards.
  • Consistently follow Board policies and procedures.
  • Adapt to changes and perform other related duties as directed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Applicants should possess:

  • A foundational understanding of gardening and grounds maintenance practices.
  • Familiarity with the tools and methods utilized in groundskeeping.
  • Proficiency in using gardening tools and equipment.
  • The ability to operate light construction machinery and vehicles.
  • Effective communication skills for understanding and conveying instructions.
  • Knowledge of water safety and the operation of watercraft.
  • The capacity to foster positive working relationships with colleagues, supervisors, and the public.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Candidates must be able to:

  • Remain stationary for 25% of the time.
  • Frequently operate various equipment, including hand and power tools.
  • Position themselves to perform maintenance tasks under or around various structures.
  • Inspect and assess equipment and materials regularly.
  • Ascend and descend stairs, ladders, and scaffolding.
  • Lift and move materials weighing up to 40 lbs.
  • Communicate effectively with the public and team members.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including inclement weather.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education and Experience:

High school graduation or an equivalent diploma is preferred, along with two years of experience in general grounds maintenance or labor.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

A valid Florida Driver's License, Class A, is required.

This position is considered Disaster Essential.
