Department: Sports Complex

Reports to: Parks & Facilities Supervisor

Pay Grade/Salary Range: 104 - $29, $44,591.64

POSITION SUMMARY:

This role involves a semi-skilled labor position dedicated to the upkeep and maintenance of County sports complexes, athletic fields, and various other facilities.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

The following outlines the primary duties associated with this position, though it is not an exhaustive list of all responsibilities:

  • Maintain and enhance grounds, lawns, recreational areas, and wooded sections through cleaning, planting, fertilizing, mowing, trimming, and weeding.
  • Install and repair irrigation systems and sprinklers.
  • Assist in the landscaping of facilities.
  • Construct and mend fences.
  • Prepare and maintain playing fields, including laying sod and seeding bare patches.
  • Edge around buildings, sidewalks, and parking lots.
  • Operate tractors, power tools, chainsaws, edgers, and other light machinery as required.
  • Perform routine maintenance and minor repairs on groundskeeping equipment.
  • Engage in masonry and concrete tasks.
  • Ensure a professional and safe working environment by adhering to established safety protocols.
  • Consistently comply with organizational policies and procedures.
  • Adapt positively to changes and undertake additional tasks as directed.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES:

Candidates should possess:

  • A foundational understanding of gardening and grounds maintenance practices.
  • Familiarity with the tools and methods used in groundskeeping.
  • Proficiency in utilizing gardening tools and equipment.
  • The ability to operate light construction machinery and vehicles.
  • Effective communication skills for both oral and written instructions.
  • Knowledge of water safety and the operation of watercraft.
  • The capability to foster positive working relationships with colleagues, supervisors, and the public.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

Must be able to:

  • Remain stationary for 25% of the workday.
  • Operate various equipment, including hand and power tools.
  • Position oneself to perform maintenance tasks in confined spaces.
  • Inspect and assess equipment and facilities regularly.
  • Ascend and descend stairs, ladders, and scaffolding frequently.
  • Lift and move materials weighing up to 40 lbs.
  • Communicate effectively with the public and team members.
  • Work outdoors in varying weather conditions, including inclement weather.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:

Education: High school diploma or equivalent preferred.

Experience: A minimum of two years in general groundskeeping or labor-related work.

LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS:

Must hold and maintain a valid Florida Driver's License, Class A.

OTHER REQUIREMENTS:

This position is designated as Disaster Essential.
