Job Title: Financial Aid Advisor

Join our team as a Financial Aid Advisor at Muskegon Community College, a leading institution of higher education. As a key member of our student services team, you will provide expert guidance and support to students and families navigating the financial aid process.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Provide student-focused service and guidance regarding student aid programs, educational funding options, and the financial aid application process.
  • Maintain active knowledge of financial aid policies and procedures to assist students, parents, and admissions, registration, and counseling staff with questions and problems.
  • Verify and award financial aid files for accuracy.
  • Serve on the Standard of Academic Progress (SAP) Committee.
  • Assist in the administration of federal, state, institutional, and outside aid programs.
Requirements:
  • Bachelor's degree in management, accounting, finance, business administration, or a related field.
  • Two years of administrative experience working with financial aid or a related field, with experience in state program administration preferred.
  • High proficiency in office technology, software, and equipment, with the ability and willingness to upgrade skills as needed.
  • Demonstrated use of tact, judgment, and discretion, with the ability to relate to people of all ages, races, and socioeconomic backgrounds.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Flexibility and ability to adapt to a variety of work situations and personalities.
  • Strong organizational, planning, and time management skills, with strong analytical and decision-making skills.
  • Ability to work independently with minimal supervision, with a high degree of self-direction.
  • Ability to supervise front-line staff and student workers.
  • Ability to adhere to written guidelines and procedures.
  • Knowledge of the Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA).
  • Demonstrated use of tact, judgment, and discretion, with the ability to maintain confidentiality.
Physical and Mental Demands:
  • Mental demands include detailed work, student contact, deadline-oriented work, problem situations, multiple priorities and demands, emergency situations, confidentiality, and continual interruptions.
  • Physical demands include standing and walking, sitting, reclining, carrying, lifting up to 10 pounds, up to 25 pounds, up to 50 pounds, and 80+ pounds, pushing, pulling, twisting, bending, climbing or balancing, stooping, kneeling, crouching, or crawling, squatting, handling or feeling, reaching with hands and arms, talking or hearing, tasting or smelling, and working overhead.
Work Environment:
  • Normal office environment with little to no discomfort due to heat, dust, noise, and the like.
  • Ability to travel to all campus locations required.
