Position Summary:
As a Billing Specialist, your primary responsibility will be to guarantee the precise and prompt submission of claims, oversee accounts receivable, and liaise with insurance providers and patients. Your proficiency will be crucial in maintaining an efficient, compliant revenue cycle that adheres to current coding standards.

Core Responsibilities:

  • Evaluate and submit insurance claims for services rendered in both clinical and surgical environments.
  • Confirm the accuracy of patient details, insurance information, and billing codes.
  • Process, assess, and follow up on unpaid or denied claims, ensuring swift resolution.
  • Oversee and reconcile patient accounts, including co-payments, deductibles, and patient responsibility amounts.
  • Engage with insurance companies, patients, and staff regarding billing inquiries and claim statuses.
  • Ensure adherence to all relevant regulations, including HIPAA and payer-specific guidelines.
  • Maintain current knowledge of coding standards, including CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS.
  • Collaborate with the practice management team to enhance billing processes and ensure efficient workflows.
  • Assist in generating reports for financial analysis, forecasting, and compliance.
  • Ensure accurate documentation and organization of all billing and coding records.
  • Stay updated with practice management software and other relevant technology tools.

Qualifications:

  • Education: High school diploma or equivalent required; an associate's degree or certification in medical billing and coding is preferred.
  • Experience: A minimum of 2-3 years of experience in medical billing, ideally in a high-volume clinic or hospital setting.
  • Certifications/Licenses: Certified Professional Biller (CPB) or Certified Professional Coder (CPC) is preferred.
  • Skills and Abilities:
    1. Comprehensive knowledge of medical billing practices, including CPT, ICD-10, and HCPCS coding.
    2. Proficiency with EHR systems and practice management software.
    3. Ability to work independently and make informed decisions regarding billing and coding processes.
    4. Strong analytical skills to identify discrepancies and resolve billing issues.
    5. Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
    6. Effective communication skills with patients, insurance representatives, and internal staff.
    7. Ability to manage multiple tasks and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
    8. Familiarity with managed care and various payer-specific billing requirements.
