Job Summary

We are seeking a highly skilled Cloud Operations Engineer to join our team. As a key member of our operations team, you will be responsible for overseeing and managing our AWS production environment, ensuring the robustness, reliability, and security of our infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • AWS Environment Management: Design, implement, and manage our AWS production environment, ensuring high availability and fault tolerance.
  • Resilient Infrastructure: Build and maintain failure-resilient environments using IaC tools such as Terraform and AWS CloudFormation.
  • Zero-Trust Security: Implement and maintain zero-trust security models to protect systems and data, ensuring that every access request is authenticated and authorized.
  • Automation and CI/CD: Design, build, and maintain a fully automated CI/CD pipeline to facilitate seamless code deployment from development to production environments.
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the DevOps and Software Engineering teams to align operations with organizational goals and client requirements.
  • Monitoring and Logging: Implement monitoring and logging solutions to ensure the health, performance, and security of services, and troubleshoot issues proactively.
  • Documentation and Knowledge Sharing: Document infrastructure configurations, deployment processes, and best practices. Share knowledge and expertise with team members through documentation, presentations, and training sessions.

Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field; or equivalent practical experience.
  • Experience: Significant experience in software engineering, with a track record of leading successful operations and development teams.
  • Agile Methodologies: Experience in Agile methodologies and project management.
  • AWS Experience: Must have 5+ years of experience managing an AWS production environment.
  • Resilient Design: Must be experienced in building out failure resilient-oriented environments.
  • Security: Must be experienced in embracing and utilizing zero-trust principles.
  • Cloud Technologies: Strong understanding of AWS cloud computing concepts and services, with hands-on experience using AWS tools and services.
  • Automation Tools: Proficiency in scripting languages and automation frameworks, with experience developing automation scripts, tools, and infrastructure as code templates.
  • Monitoring Tools: Familiarity with monitoring and logging tools and practices, and experience setting up monitoring dashboards, alerts, and automated responses.
  • Networking and Security: Solid understanding of networking concepts, protocols, and security principles, with experience configuring and troubleshooting network infrastructure and security groups in AWS environments.
  • Collaboration Skills: Strong communication and collaboration skills, capable of working effectively across different teams and communicating technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Problem-Solving Abilities: Excellent problem-solving skills and analytical thinking, with the ability to troubleshoot complex issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement effective solutions in a timely manner.

Success Metrics

  • Achieve uptime for the AWS production environment over a 12-month period by implementing resilient infrastructure and proactive monitoring.
  • Reduce security incidents within the first year by fully implementing and maintaining zero-trust security models across all systems.
  • Increase deployment efficiency within six months through the design and implementation of a fully automated CI/CD pipeline.

Work Arrangement

gWorks is a hybrid work environment, and preference will be given to candidates who are local to the Omaha, Nebraska area. However, highly qualified candidates who reside outside of the local area and are able to work remotely will also be considered.
