Position Overview
As a Manager of Statutory Accounting, you will take charge of directing and supervising all facets of statutory reporting functions within this dynamic property and casualty insurance startup. This position demands a comprehensive grasp of statutory accounting practices, regulatory obligations, and financial reporting norms pertinent to the insurance sector.

Key Responsibilities
  • Establish and uphold best practices while implementing operational protocols and internal controls for a nascent P&C insurance organization.
  • Remain updated on regulatory shifts and requirements, acting as a subject matter expert on statutory accounting standards and principles.
  • Examine supporting documentation, reconciliations, and monthly journal entries to accurately reflect premium and loss activities, investment outcomes, commissions, and taxes.
  • Conduct financial statement analysis to clarify variances.
  • Prepare Annual Statement submissions, Quarterly Statutory Filings, premium tax returns, and other statutory documents, including MD&A, IRIS, and RBC ratios.
  • Compile quarterly Stat to GAAP adjustments.
  • Develop, oversee, and propose enhancements to internal controls related to statutory reporting.
  • Stay well-informed about company financial transactions and collaborate with the team to ensure precise accounting and financial statement presentation.
  • Work alongside other departments to streamline workflows and efficiently gather information to support accounting entries and financial reporting.
  • Partner with the Financial Planning & Analysis team to assist with budgets and forecasts and to elucidate variances from actual results.
  • Recommend and manage software solutions to facilitate statutory reporting and create integrations with existing enterprise applications.
Candidate Profile
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting.
  • Demonstrated experience in statutory insurance accounting and reporting, with a robust understanding of NAIC Statutory Accounting Principles or equivalent experience in insurance accounting through Public Accounting (4+ years), along with strong knowledge of internal controls and technical accounting.
  • Highly organized with exceptional attention to detail and precision.
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and communication capabilities.
  • Able to thrive in a fast-paced environment while managing multiple priorities.
  • Commitment to meeting strict deadlines and effectively communicating task statuses.
  • Proven ability to collaborate with diverse levels of employees across various functions.
  • Proficient in MS Office Suite, particularly Excel.
  • Experience with Workday ERP system and Workiva external reporting software.
Additional Information
  • This role offers the flexibility to work remotely within the United States.
  • Familiarity with public company regulations, including Sarbanes-Oxley and key compliance requirements, is beneficial.
