Senior Event Coordinator

As a Senior Events Manager at Marriott International, you will be responsible for preparing all event documentation and coordinating with Sales, property departments, and customers to ensure consistent, high-level service throughout the pre-event, event, and post-event phases of property events. This position primarily handles complex events, ensuring a seamless turnover from sales to service back to sales. You will recognize opportunities to maximize revenue by up-selling and offering enhancements to create outstanding events. In the absence of the Director of Event Management or Director of Event Planning and Operations, you will support and act on their behalf. As the event planner's primary contact, you will be responsible for their experience throughout the event phase.
Candidate Profile
To be successful in this role, you will require a high school diploma or GED, along with 2 years of experience in event management or a related professional area. Alternatively, a 2-year degree from an accredited university in Hotel and Restaurant Management, Hospitality, Business Administration, or a related major is also acceptable, with no work experience required.
Core Work Activities
Executing Event Operations
• Solve problems and/or suggest alternatives to previous arrangements if necessary.
• Lead pre-event and post-event meetings for assigned groups.
• Identify operational challenges associated with your group and work with the property staff and customer to solve these challenges and/or develop alternative solutions.
• Manage customer budgets to maximize revenue and meet customer needs.
• Oversee your customer experiences from file turnover through the post-event phase until turnover back to sales.
• Conduct pre- and post-event meetings as required to review/communicate group needs and feedback.
• Manage group room blocks and meeting space for assigned groups.
• Adhere to all standards, policies, and procedures.
• Celebrate successes and publicly recognize the contributions of team members.
Executing the Sales and Marketing Strategy
• Up-sell products and services throughout the event process.
• Participate in customer site inspections and assist with the sales process when necessary.
• Act as liaison between field sales person and customer throughout the event process (pre-event, event, post-event).
Managing Profitability
• Manage revenue and profitability associated with events.
• Forecast group sleeping rooms and event revenue (catering and audio-visual) for your groups.
• Review billing and payments with clients.
Providing Exceptional Customer Service
• Interact with guests to obtain feedback on product quality and service levels.
• Handle guest problems and complaints.
• Make your presence known to the customer at all times during the entire event process.
• Follow up with the customer post-event.
• Greet the customer during the event phase and hand-off to the Event Operations team for the execution of details.
• Strive to improve service performance.
• Set a positive example for guest relations.
• Review comment cards and guest satisfaction results with associates.
• Coordinate and communicate verbally and in writing with the customer (internal and external) regarding event details.
