Position Title: Sustainability Engineer
Role Summary:
As a key player in our environmental initiatives, the Sustainability Engineer is tasked with ensuring the effective operation of all environmental programs within the Mill.
Key Responsibilities:
- Oversees various environmental initiatives at the facility.
- Manages and maintains the wastewater treatment facility to comply with industrial wastewater regulations.
- Monitors daily environmental compliance, investigates discrepancies, and communicates findings to relevant authorities and management.
- Prepares and reviews environmental documentation required by regulatory bodies.
- Ensures adherence to state and federal greenhouse gas regulations and the cap-and-trade program.
- Acts as the primary contact for environmental agencies regarding compliance and inspections.
- Acquires, updates, and maintains necessary environmental permits and plans.
- Collaborates with departments during environmental incidents, ensuring thorough reporting and corrective actions.
- Conducts annual and initial training on environmental compliance for staff; participates in required external environmental training and certification.
- Maintains and reviews the hazardous materials management plan for chemicals utilized in the Mill; evaluates and approves new chemical substances.
- Stays informed on current environmental regulations and their implications for Mill operations.
- Advises leadership on necessary compliance adjustments.
- Participates in call duty functions for Production/BOD.
- Engages in community outreach initiatives.
- Coordinates environmental due diligence assessments.
- Reviews laboratory testing conducted by technicians.
- Ensures timely payment of all environmental-related invoices and fees.
- Supervises and coordinates subcontracted environmental projects and reports.
- Conducts safety audits and contributes to the Mill's safety initiatives.
- Provides oversight to the Technical Department in the absence of the Technical Manager.
- Performs additional duties as assigned.
- Bachelor's degree in Environmental or Chemical Engineering.
- Familiarity with federal, state, and local regulations pertinent to manufacturing and industrial sectors.
- A minimum of 3 years of experience in an environmental role within a manufacturing context.
