POSITION SUMMARY

As a vital member of our Transportation division, the Traffic Engineer will be responsible for developing Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), fiber optic networks, traffic signal systems, traffic control measures, signage, and pavement marking plans, in addition to conducting traffic operational analyses. The Traffic Engineer will leverage their expertise to assist project teams in the successful execution of projects from planning through design.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • The most rewarding aspect of being a Traffic Engineer at Michael Baker is the diversity of clients and projects, ensuring that each day presents unique challenges, some of which may be exceptionally intricate.
  • A significant portion of your time will be dedicated to managing and executing traffic-related tasks across various surface transportation design initiatives. Many projects will commence with traffic forecasting, advance through traffic analysis, and culminate in the design of traffic signals, signal communications, and ITS frameworks.
  • By collaborating with colleagues across the region, you will support the Transportation Engineering Team by preparing project scopes and budgets for traffic engineering tasks, organizing personnel to fulfill assignments, and participating in technical discussions with agency representatives and clients.
  • Assist in the development of technical proposals and engage in business development initiatives.
  • Contribute to transportation infrastructure projects for state and local agencies.
  • Be prepared for occasional travel to various local offices.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • 6+ years of progressive experience in traffic engineering design and operations.
  • California Professional Engineer (P.E.) certification; Traffic Engineer (T.E.) and/or Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification is advantageous.
  • Experience collaborating with state transportation departments and local municipalities.
  • Proficient in MicroStation and AutoCAD, as well as traffic operations software such as Synchro, TruTraffic, and HCS. Familiarity with SignCAD is preferred.
  • Experience in traffic signal timing is beneficial.
  • Field operations experience or on-site troubleshooting for controller cabinets and signal equipment is desirable.
  • Skilled in preparing technical reports and memoranda.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong attention to detail, effective decision-making, and organizational abilities.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize project tasks to meet competing deadlines and oversee staff.
  • Capable of working independently and collaboratively within a team environment to support project delivery.
COMPENSATION PACKAGE
The salary range for this role is $110,000-$145,000, commensurate with the experience and qualifications of the selected candidate.
