POSITION SUMMARY

As a key member of our Transportation division, the Traffic Engineer will be responsible for the development of Intelligent Transportation Systems (ITS), fiber optic networks, traffic signal designs, traffic control plans, signage, and pavement marking strategies. The Traffic Engineer will leverage their expertise to assist project teams in the successful execution of various projects throughout the planning and design phases.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Every day as a Traffic Engineer at Michael Baker presents unique challenges across a diverse range of clients and projects, ensuring that no two days are alike.
  • The majority of your time will be spent in the office, managing and executing traffic-related tasks for a variety of surface transportation design initiatives. Projects will typically commence with traffic forecasting, advance through traffic analysis, and culminate in the design of traffic signals and ITS systems.
  • Collaborating with colleagues throughout the region, you will assist the Transportation Engineering Team by preparing project scopes and budgets, organizing personnel for task completion, and participating in technical discussions with agency representatives and clients.
  • Contribute to the development of technical proposals and engage in business development efforts.
  • Work on transportation infrastructure projects for state and local agencies.
  • Occasional travel to other regional offices may be required.

PROFESSIONAL QUALIFICATIONS
  • Bachelor's Degree in Civil Engineering.
  • A minimum of 6 years of progressive experience in traffic engineering design and operations.
  • California Professional Engineer (P.E.) certification is required; Traffic Engineer (T.E.) or Professional Traffic Operations Engineer (PTOE) certification is advantageous.
  • Experience collaborating with state transportation departments and local municipalities.
  • Proficient in MicroStation and AutoCAD, as well as traffic operations software such as Synchro, TruTraffic, and HCS. Familiarity with SignCAD is a plus.
  • Experience in traffic signal timing is preferred.
  • Hands-on experience in field operations or troubleshooting for signal control cabinets and equipment is desirable.
  • Skilled in preparing technical documentation and reports.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite, including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint.
  • Strong attention to detail, decision-making abilities, and organizational skills.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple project assignments effectively.
  • Capable of working independently as well as collaboratively within a team environment to ensure project success.
