Overview of Responsibilities

As a key member of the maintenance team, you will oversee and coordinate the efforts of work crews dedicated to the construction, rehabilitation, and upkeep of public roadways and adjacent areas. This role requires hands-on supervision and a commitment to safety and efficiency in all operations.

Core Responsibilities

  • Demonstrate extensive knowledge of departmental operations and machinery.
  • Exhibit advanced skills in operating heavy machinery while prioritizing safety to mitigate risks.
  • Possess a solid understanding of various tools and techniques used in roadway construction and maintenance.
  • Maintain awareness of safety hazards associated with labor-intensive tasks and implement necessary precautions.
  • Effectively utilize hand and power tools relevant to assigned duties.
  • Show proficiency in the maintenance and repair of heavy equipment.
  • Maintain physical fitness to handle demanding tasks in challenging weather conditions.
  • Work competently in confined spaces.
  • Understand traffic regulations and safety protocols.
  • Employ strong mathematical skills for accurate reporting of time and materials.
  • Prepare detailed reports as required.
  • Interpret and execute plans and specifications, following verbal and written instructions.
  • Communicate complex instructions clearly to team members.
  • Resolve a variety of operational challenges effectively.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership skills, including the ability to train and motivate staff.
  • Oversee and evaluate the work of maintenance crews, ensuring quality and efficiency.
  • Collaborate with team members to achieve project goals.
  • Foster positive relationships with all levels of staff.
  • Exhibit excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Utilize computer systems for record-keeping and tracking.
  • Train others in safe forklift operations.
  • Provide exceptional customer service and represent the organization positively.
  • Maintain a valid driving record and operate vehicles safely.
  • Adapt to a flexible work schedule as needed.
Qualifications

High school diploma preferred, with a minimum of three years of relevant experience, including two years in a supervisory role, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.

Additional Requirements

Valid Class A CDL with necessary endorsements, along with certifications in flagging, confined space, and forklift operation (training provided upon employment). A background check will be conducted for all candidates offered employment.
