TITLE: Science Educator (7th Grade)

IMMEDIATE SUPERVISOR: Principal

EMPLOYMENT: 200 days

EFFECTIVE DATE: School Year

SALARY: Compensation based on experience and educational qualifications per salary schedule plus a competitive benefits package.

QUALIFICATIONS: The ideal candidate must demonstrate and/or provide evidence of the following:

*Valid West Virginia Certification in the relevant subject area.

*Strong academic foundation.

*Ability to foster an engaging and motivating learning environment for students.

*Knowledge of diverse teaching methodologies to effectively instruct students with varying abilities.

*Proficient communication skills, both written and verbal, ensuring clarity and correctness.

*Demonstrated capacity to effectively support students of different proficiency levels and tailor lessons to their needs.

*Ability to analyze and interpret assessment data to enhance student learning and confidence.

*Understanding of Effective School Research principles as they relate to the position.

*Ability to cultivate a collaborative relationship with administration, staff, students, and the community.

*Familiarity with the curriculum standards for the subject area.

*Understanding of strategies to promote positive student behavior in the classroom.

*Experience with technology and its application in education.

*A combination of education and experience that would lead to successful performance in this role.

*Any modifications to the aforementioned qualifications as deemed appropriate by the Board.

FUNCTIONS AND DUTIES:

I. Curriculum Implementation:

Definition: Provides a curriculum aligned with the State of West Virginia requirements
  • Utilizes the adopted curriculum for instruction.
  • Demonstrates current and accurate knowledge in the subject area.
  • Designs effective lessons to achieve instructional goals.
  • Employs diverse instructional strategies to enhance student achievement.
  • Incorporates content scope and sequence in lesson planning.
II. Learning Environment:

Definition: Establishes a supportive atmosphere for learning that aligns with the school’s mission.
  • Adheres to established discipline protocols.
  • Creates rules and procedures that promote learning.
  • Encourages student attendance and participation.
  • Sets high expectations for student performance.
  • Recognizes and celebrates individual student achievements.
  • Treats all students fairly and equitably.
  • Accommodates diverse learning needs.
  • Maintains a conducive learning environment.
  • Engages with parents regarding student progress.
III. Instructional Management:

Definition: Organizes teaching strategies to optimize instructional time and enhance student learning.
  • Prepares and executes lesson plans effectively.
  • Begins lessons with a review of prior material as necessary.
  • Ensures materials and resources are ready for each lesson.
  • Clearly states instructional objectives at the start of each activity.
  • Directs students to remain focused and engaged promptly.
  • Presents concepts using language and examples that resonate with students.
  • Assigns tasks that are developmentally appropriate.
  • Maintains a pace that supports student comprehension.
  • Facilitates smooth transitions between activities.
  • Summarizes key points at the conclusion of lessons.
  • Encourages clear expression of ideas among students.
  • Incorporates higher-order thinking skills into lessons.
  • Assists students in developing effective study habits and skills.
  • Provides additional support for students as needed.
  • Designs, delivers, and evaluates learning activities aligned with state goals.
  • Integrates various technology tools to support student success.
IV. Student Assessment

Definition: Collects and analyzes data related to student learning to assess progress toward instructional objectives.
  • Adheres to grading policies and standards.
  • Keeps accurate and comprehensive student records.
  • Monitors and evaluates student progress consistently.
  • Provides constructive feedback on student work.
  • Tracks student attendance diligently.
V. Communication:

Definition: Engages with students, parents, and educational staff using clear and effective communication.
  • Reports student progress according to established guidelines.
  • Maintains regular communication with students, colleagues, and parents.
  • Respects confidentiality regarding student and family information.
  • Communicates clearly and effectively in both spoken and written forms.
  • Identifies and utilizes community resources as needed.
VI. Professional Conduct:

Definition: Exhibits professional behavior that reflects established responsibilities (i.e., attendance, punctuality, and communication).
  • Complies with laws, policies, and regulations.
  • Interacts appropriately with students, staff, and parents.
  • Engages in professional development activities.
  • Submits reports, grades, and records punctually.
  • Completes assigned duties effectively.
  • Strives to achieve school and county objectives.
  • Demonstrates professionalism in appearance and conduct.
